Question Removed Geforce 2MX, installed Geforce 4

I received the ti4200 today Very pleased i was able to install with seemingly no problems! Anyway, here's the question:

I installed the latest detonator drivers after installing the card and ran CS to marvel at the amazing FPS. Firstly i ran it at 1280 x 960 and it produced 60 fps, satisfying i thought....but when i ran it at 1024 x 768 (normal resolution for me) it stayed at 60 fps, nothing more This is slightly dappening the excitement as i thought it'd hit 100 no problem at all. Any idea on whats happening??

That's becuse your refesh rate is set at 60 for that res, even at 1280 a ti4200 should be able to get the max 101 out of CS.

You might need to get a little res proggy like RefreshLock to change the refreshrate for you when you change res.

I have done that m8, it made CS play pretty funny, very "out of sync" literally. Surely on a card that is 'substantially' more powerful than the previous one it shouldn't matter if v-sync is on or off??!! I still need to hit this 100fps, i will not stop till i do!

My Display properties don't let my monitor go above 85hz, isn't this gonna bodge my system up??

If your monitor doesnt suppoer over 85hz at the resolution you want then you either have to turn off Vsync (and get the tearing with it), buy a new monitor, or use 85hz

I had the same problem with my old monitor, I could only get 85FPS with Vsync on because of my refresh rate, but I would rather have the 85FPS than play with Vsync off.

My new monitor does 120hz at 1280X1024

go into ur config.cfg file in your CS folder. open with notepad. in there you should be able to find a piece of text saying 'fps_max'. set that to 101 and save the file. ur framerate should go as high as it can. altho u wont see much, if any visable difference from 60fps.

I got NO tearing on my Ti4200 card with V-Sync off (Albatron Ti4680 Turbo) and had 100fps solid in CS.

If you have V-Sync on then no amount of tweaking will get your FPS to rise above the rfresh rate of your monitor i.e. if you have 85Hz refresh then you will get a max of 85fps.....

The only way you will get better FPS is to up the refresh in your monitor OR turn V-Sync off......

I am currently only on 60fps but then my TFT only runs 60Hz.... If I change NOTHING and just swap my monitor over mid game (plug cable out then plug other one in) to my CRT then it goes to 100fps.....

Its the refresh rate of the monitor....

the default FPS in CS is 72 so if that was the problem then I guess he would have said that he had a FPS of 72 and not 60.

I am not saying that the post was not usefull, he may not know about the FPS being limited in the .cfg.

Never played with v-sync on, didn't know this was related to screen tearing. Thanks for this info, maybe this will allow me to oc my ti4400 a bit higher.

    edit: off on bleh
