I'd suggest you stick a post in to the Hexus Powers That Be and see if they can arrange a complete buying guide...
...I am sure that they have loads of free time

I just bought the saphire x800xl, it was quite a bit cheaper than the powercolor.
Came bundled with Prince of Persia, Pandora's Tomorrow, power dvd, drivers and redline o/c utility.
Hi All,
Sorry for the delay in reply - but I have been 'well bizy' as they say in the East
Have you tried places like this... http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=85143
Because this is now a volume product (i.e. shipping in big amounts) + is doing amazingly well in reviews...
...you will find that stocks will fluctuate according to how many orders are placed on a given day
That said - the X850 XT is an awesome card so I don't imagine you will be short of frames-per-second for some time to come
I had a good conversation with one of the industry's top 3D journalists last night (who shall remain nameless in case there is an article in the offing)...
...and he confirmed that the X850XT costs the same (or less) than a pair of 6600GTs in SLi - but wins in every possible test... including Doom 3 (even at 1600x1200 with 4x/8x)
i.e. if you want 'steam loads of power' and unbeatable Doom 3 frame rates at that price point - then the choice is pretty clear
Same goes for the X800 XL from £185+vat (give or take)
Same goes for the X800 vanilla from £145+vat (give or take)
To avoid getting completely flamed for such blatent pitching - I would like to point out that anything I tell you should be verified by your most trusted journalist and pricing checked for decency and accuracy

Is the powercolour actually better? Do the sappire and the powercolour both have VIVO? I cant get a straight answer on the bundle, it changes from review to review, may be different countrys but i dont think they were.

I recently bought a 256mb PowerColor X800 XT PE.
The performance of course is outstanding: Half life 2 and Farcry are both very playable with everything turned on @1600,1200 but the load times in HL2 are very annoying (new hard disk required). Doom3 runs playable with everything at max as long as you set Display panel to performance mode with the slider. Of course playable is very subjective, for me its 40fps average, with very limited dipping of fps acceptable during heavy action.
The card also supports output to high definition TV (VIVO), which is a bit of a bonus.
I was also very suprised to find that the card came with one of those 5in1 memory card readers. I havent used it but this is quite a cool addition, it even looks decent.
The software package however sucks, Hitman Contracts? Please! Firstly the game doesnt show off any of the cards stengths and secondly MaxPayne 2 is a much better! Also the actual card has got hitman contracts logos all over it which look rubbish, Id much rather see the ATI minotaur or in fact anything else really.
Having said this I didnt spend 340quid to get the software that comes with it or the logo but its still a bit crap.
The biggest issue with this card, and I could be just unlucky is I have a strange problem where during game play the screen goes blank for a few seconds and then comes back again. I have actually just fixed this problem seemingly, by overclocking the card and thats a bit worrying, and I may send it back.
Having said all of this I am still very happy with the card, the performance is simply a must see for all gamers the only problem is you will have to upgrade everything else in your pc to keep up with it!!!
Now off to order that 10000RMP Raptor & AMD 3800+ & ....
ATI X800 XT PE,P4 3.16Ghz (800Mhz fsb), 512Mb Ram, Samsung 213T-B
You may find more joy in the short term by getting some more RAM - 512MB just isn't enough for HL2.Originally Posted by tom deloford

Great game play is not about having a super-rokkin-ard-kor card alone...
...you need to be thinking about balance
Also, as I have posted before, you need to be aware of what resolution your screen will handle
If an X800XL will give you over 60 fps at 1280x1024 with 4x/8x in your favourite game...

or
The Sapphire
or
The ASUS
Does the Sapphire have VIVO?

Their all produced so close to each other it really doesn't matter.
Just pick the cheapest of them all!
