Question Good 17" or average 19" TFT?

Am thinking about picking either one of these two TFTs from MicroDirect and would appreciate some advice about which to pick.

Usage is varied ... mostly general surfing, etc ... also sometimes watch DVDs and play FPSs though. Graphics work is limited to web design only, so no ultra-high-quality requirements in that respect.

    17" LG Flatron L1730P Silver 12ms TFT +DVI +USB +rotate (£229.11)

    or

    19" LG L1915S TFT 12ms 500:1 (£251.74)

Help from the experts (that's you lot) is welcome, plus any other suggestions if you think appropriate

    Thanks!

Well I'm not an expert, but of those two, I'd spend my money on the 17"... Simply because it has a DVI input, where the 19" hasn't. I've got a 17" TFT and the difference between analogue and digital is huge.

From what I've picked up on the threads in this board, I was under the impression that, although there's a definite difference between VGA and DVI, the difference is minimal. I was kinda figuring that based on this small difference, the benefits of 19" versus 17" were greater than the drawbacks of the DVI v VGA? Can anyone confirm/deny?

Okay, it's not that huge... Personally I would never go back to a non-DVI monitor, but I guess it depends what you're used to...

If I were you, I'd go for the better quality (but smaller) monitor. Just sit closer to it

It depends on the screen as to how much of a diffreence DVI makes. I've just upgraded my iiyama 17" CRT (7 years old!) to a Hanon L-1715 (12ms response time, you can get them for £135) and the difference is phenomenal. I'm running it through a DSUB connector
