Monitor sometimes displays picture with a yellow tint.

I'm trying to work out if it's a problem with the monitor (2 years old 17" VideoSeven) or my 9800 Pro graphics card.

Over the last few months I have noticed that my monitor has started to display the image with a yellow tint. Only happens for a few seconds then reverts back to normal. It has also happened when the PC is booting and only showing the bios boot screen. This morning however it stayed for almost a minute in Windows.

Is the monitor on its last legs or a possible memory problem with my graphics card?

I tried to take a screenshot today when it happened again using the Print Screen key. I pasted the image into Paint Shop Pro and the image was normal without the yellow tint. Seems to point more to a problem with the monitor and I realised also that only the white areas turn yellow.

It's because the monitor is ageing - it's going sepia, like old photographs... :p

check the D-sub cable - it might have a break internally and this can cause the colours to go all weird. This is usually the case in all the calls I get from friends about their monitors going all funky on them

^^ as he says it will be the monitor cable either not plugged in fully or has become damged with use , with a bit of bending you should be able to find a position that fixes it tho and keep it that way with tape or cable ties, works for me with dodgy monitor cables anway :)

Let's actually try to help the guy before posting one-liners, yeah? :)

As WildmonkeyUK suggested, it could be a break in the cable. The other problem could be a dry solder joint within the monitor itself - with the expansion and contraction from the heat given off by a monitor, this can happen a fair bit. Repairing such a problem is easy, but not exactly safe unless you know electronics... so definitely check the cable first (which, annoyingly, will probably be fixed to the monitor anyway.)

Thanks for all the replies.

I'll try checking the monitor cable itself first by unplugging it from the graphics card and straighting it out with a few twists. And yes the cable is fixed into the monitor.

If it comes down to the monitor, I'll just have to buy a new one. With your replies I'm confident its not the graphics card, which would have been more expensive to replace.

Check cables, degous (sp), and take any magnetic thigns away such as speakers.
