    help needed pls

    Hey,

I am about to get a new pc for gaming and other tasks from mesh and I would like to know which one of the following items are better.

    Monitors-
    (1) 17inch Iiyama Prolite E435s TFT Flat Panel with 10msec responce time
    (2) 19 inch CRT mesh monitor

    Graphics Cards-
    (1) GeForce 6800 LE 128mb
    (2) GeForce 6600 GT 128mb
    (3) Radeon 9800 Pro

    Thanks

    P.S
I would like to play doom 3 and half life 2 at high quality with aa and af on so which ones would be better, also is it worth upgrading from a athalon 64 3200+ with 512 ddr ram to a 3400+ with 1024 ddr ram/

    Thanks again

I know others might have had a different experience, but I've had awful experiences with Mesh - their customer service was appalling, faulty parts had been fitted to the PC and it took forever to arrange a refund. Just getting to speak to someone took an age and I was on the phone every day for a month trying to sort it out. Just my experience, but thought I'd mention it.

Most people on here will say build yourself, but I didn't have the experience or time. I went with www.wired2fire.co.uk and they were great - had it built and delivered in a week. You can set up your own specifications online to match your budget.

I'd rule out the 9800 Pro first - both of the other cards are generally faster. Of the 6800LE and 6600GT, I'd go for the 6600GT - it's cheaper, has the same sort of performance, and has a working video thingymabobby.

The extra RAM would be worth it, but not the processor upgrade. You could add in the RAM yourself, and it would make a fair bit of difference in the very latest games.

I'd agree with Mike W about the 660GT for the budget your looking at. CRT monitors are always better for gaming, but i can't recommend the Mesh as I've just had such bad experiences with them - the quality of my rig was appalling, but that's not to say everyone has had the same experience with them.

I read a lot about the different companies and read some bad reviews on demonite's after sales service and returns, but that's only second hand info. I haven't used them myself. I was laying out quite a bit of cash so i looked into most companies and wired2fire came out best. Dell don't do AMD chips though, only Intel, if you wanted AMD for gaming by the way.

I've always found Komplett a decent site for parts, so their system builder might be worth a look: http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/cl.asp?bn=10310

Thinking about it, if you want to go for one of the bigger companies Dell/Mesh etc I've used Evesham in the past when I bought a rig a couple of years ago, and they were very good, helpful and a good PC.

I would go with Mesh - I found their customer service a pain in the arse when trying to get my bro's pc fixed, but not as bad as Carrera's - and when they did fix it they replaced his 9500 non pro with a 9700pro - cant complain.

Carrera on the other hand went bust recently but frankly they were shoclingly bad on the customer service front, I spent in total about 4 hours ringing them over 2 weeks and never once spoke to technical support. Was once on hold for 1 hour! And that was about 3pm on a weekday!

The mesh case, if they havent changed it recently, has dual 120mm fans as well so it is a well cooled case.

Mesh and Evesham are both pretty good choices imo

Mesh use to be really good for customer service a FEW years ago. evesham I have
never used but most say good things about them but i would like to know what happened
    when people have ahad problems.

I for one no longer recommend mesh after they wouldnt replace a known defective HD
    which had failed.

search on dooyoo.co.uk or search dooyoo and mesh/evesham on google.

As stock the 6600GT is better value for money than the 6800LE, but with the 6800LE you have a better than average chance of being able to soft mod it (a very simple process using Riva Tuner. Literally as simple as selecting a menu option and as far as I know risk free. I have heard no bad stories at all about doing this softmod.) and unlock at least some of the disabled pipelines. I have heard of people successfully unlocking all 16 pipelines and ending up with the equivalent of a £300 6800GT.
Worst case scenario....you have one that won't unlock so would have similar performance to the 6600GT.
Best case scenario....you have one that will unlock all 16 pipelines and will overclock to 6800GT levels or possibly even further.

Do ya feel lucky, punk? Well, do ya?
