which card for £100 - £130 ish?

hi,

i am in the process of building computer.

i am mainly going to be using ms office/internet/photoshop/3ds studio max/macromedia studio/java/adobe premiere and few other multimedia based software.

depending on cpu/motherboard i choose i have around £100 - £130 to spend on graphics card.

i may need an agp or pci-express card depending on motherboard chosen.

can someone please recommend a decent one for my needs (agp & pci-express).

will connect to a dell widescreen hopefully soon.

6600 would be my suggestion. I got a nice XFX from Scan... great card :)

Get a 6600 if your going PCI-e

If your going AGP you could get a 2nd hand Radeon 9800 Pro for less than £100, only if its the 256bit version

Don't forget the ATI x700 Pro. The 6600GT is faster in some things yes however I tire of forever updating detonator drivers and find that often ATI 2D image quality is better than Nvidia (altho im comparing a GF4 Ti4200 to my x700)

I would still say the 9800 Pro is going strong at present! I would only go for a 6600GT if you have a PCI-E capable motherboard, otherwise save money and get yourself a 9800 Pro. If your going PCI-E it will be more future proof, but if your sticking with AGP I wouldnt spend vast amounts on something that you will update eventually anyways.

AGP - 9800 Pro 256bit version (£100-£115)
PCI-E - 6600GT XFX, Chaintech etc (£110-£120)

they do the 6600gt in agp and e-pci if u look around ..

I would choose the 6600GT over the 9800 Pro - it tends to be faster, and is more recent.

yep the 6600gt is best afaik.

If you are going PCI-E, you could go for the MSI NX6600-VTD128E Diamond, (reviewed on Hexus), although its listed as a vanilla 6600, its got GDDR3 RAM and can be clocked up to or even faster than 6600GT clocks (its basically an underclocked GT).

I say consider it simply because it has tv in and tv out, unlike most other boards out there

its in at overclockers.co.uk here for £117.
