New graphics card £150-200
Hi hive mind,
I seem to have caught the Playerunknown Battleground bug and my old ATI 7950 is getting a bit long in the tooth. My PC is mainly used for playing games on a 1080p monitor, I do have a 2nd monitor plugged in but that's not used while gaming. Other things I use it for are photoshop and a bit of video editing. Assuming a budget of £150, but can stretch to £200, and wanting anew not 2nd hand, whats the best bang for buck at the moment?
Cheers
Flibb

Its hard to say with your current setup whether you are more CPU or GPU limited. The best card under £150 would be a GTX1050TI 4GB. Between £150 to £200 would be a GTX1060 3GB since RX570 cards have gone up in price, but I am not certain 3GB of VRAM is a good idea if you do keep a card for a couple of years.
Edit!!
It might be worth checking if Win10 Fall Creators update helps performance too.
Second Edit!!
The main problem is the game can push CPUs,but almost all tests have been done with very high end cards.
Third Edit!!
There are some recent videos with some newer cards with the FX6300 running PUBG:

The first is with a GTX1050TI ,the second two with GTX960 cards and the final one with an R9 380 4GB. These are all under a month old so should be on the newer patches for the game.
Does your current performance in the game look much worse or around the same?? The R9 380 4GB should be quite close to a HD7950 3GB but with more VRAM,but OTH it does handle tessellation better.
Re: New graphics card £150-200
I am planning a gradual system upgrade over the next 6 months. GPU next couple of months, then MOBO/CPU/RAM around March.

The best card would be the GTX1060 3GB for under £200 ,but if you keep systems for a long time,3GB is not really a good amount of VRAM TBF as a number of games are getting more and more VRAM heavy. I would suggest trying to get at least get a GTX1060 6GB or RX570/580 4GB/8GB. There should be some deals around Black Friday or possibly some pre-Christmas sales but mining has warped the price of graphics cards in the last six months.
Its kind of sad when you could have had a RX470/570/480/580 4GB/8GB or GTX1060 3GB/6GB for less money late last year or at the start of the year.
The GTX1050TI 4GB would be faster than what you have now if you want to go cheap, but PUBG can be taxing on both CPU and GPU.
Its why I don't like Early Access games as optimisation is not really a strong point sadly, and the issue is any review of performance is not relevant due to the continual patching of games, plus the new Win10 update might actually help with certain games too.
Edit!!
Since it is UE4 based I would hazard a guess Nvidia cards will have the edge over AMD ones in the game.
Re: New graphics card £150-200
It should be a 570, but altcoin miners ruin everything so those start at ~£240 now. There aren't any cards that properly sit in the £150-200 range, so your options are:
- Penny change from £200: 1060 3GB. Most grunt of the bunch, hands down.
- £135: 1050ti. Semitone higher than the 1050, so probably not worth it
- £105: 1050: Fag paper more than the 560, ~15% less than the 1050ti
- £95: 560
This Hexus review has most of your options, but with a 460 instead of a 560 (~14% slower):
http://hexus.net/tech/reviews/graphi...050-sc-gaming/
And here's tomshardware covering the 560:

Problem is, none of the options (other than the 1060) are likely to substantially improve on your 7950. There's rumours of a mid-range refresh from AMD coming SoonTM (http://wccftech.com/amd-preparing-la...certification/), so things might improve in the next couple of months.
Re: New graphics card £150-200
Other option is to redo the overclock on my rig and try to get a bit more out of my current setup. Have to sort drivers etc out, fitted a new SSD a while ago and only did a rough install. PUBG runs ok but I have to have a lot of stuff turned down.
Re: New graphics card £150-200
Have you overclocked the graphics card?? The HD7950 and HD7970 were known for having very low stock clockspeeds.
But if you are going to get a new CPU next year - I would deffo try and aim for Ryzen 5 1600/Core i5 8400 as PUBG got a patch to increase performance on CPUs with six cores.

You might be better off reversing that idea & doing the other bits first. Failing that, hold on till black Friday and see if there's a deal on.
It's utter madness that the week before the 580 launched I got a 4gb 480 for £155. Now I can sell it second hand for nearly £200. The market is nuts.

This is my current settings, tabbed out just as a game of PUBG finished

Hmm,from a casual glance at that it shows your card at 100% so a new card would probably help. OTH,I have been looking at some of the benchmarks on websites and on YT,and people have had noticeably better performance going from say a Core i3 to a Core i7 in the game with a decentish graphics card.
I would say, maybe a GTX1060 6GB would do the trick?? Nvidia cards used to be faster than AMD a while back, but Vega for instance is better at 1080p than equivalent Nvidia cards IIRC. The issue for such a popular game there is a distinct lack of testing from review sites and due to its early access nature,it needs to be continually rebenched TBH!!
The slightly slower 3GB version can be had for under £200,but I am not sure whether longer term its really worth it.

As CAT says, without also seeing the CPU usage (and also frame times) during a game it's hard to be sure what's holding you back. The GPU does hit 100% usage pretty regularly, but then again it also dips below quite often too (including a fairly lengthy period where it barely reaches 100%). I might be being naive, but to me that suggests there are times when the CPU is struggling to feed the GPU fast enough.
Do you have your CPU overclocked at all?
Re: New graphics card £150-200
Trying to get a stable CPU OC at the moment. Its running at 4.3 at the moment.
