Just been trawling the internet to see if I was able to control my Leadtek 6800 fanspeed as it's a little noisy when no other noise about.
So made a discovery!
Get yourself Expertool It's made by Gainward for their cards but works on a lot of other makes.
Then to better the fan control, use this This ”HACK” enable fanspeed settings in EXPERTool to range from 0 to 100%
Now my card near silent, and the temps have onlu gone up 2-3oC, and it will even let me have the fan on 100% when in a LAN.
Could be good...
Seems like a great tool in theory, but couldn't it cause problems in the long run?
When you say it works on "other makes" do you mean other nVidia makes?
or do they have a separate tool for Radeon cards? (e.g. the X800XT)

after closing the prog it seemed to stick the fan at full whack
Hey this is great. I didn't use the hack bit I just changed the 2D fan speed to 50% instead of 60 on my gigabyte 6600GT and it got rid of an annoying whine. Temps went from 57 to 59c, which I can live with until I get some decent cooling on there.

Try setting the fan speed and then killing the process via task manager (make sure it's the PROCESS and not the PROGRAM) instead of exiting the program manually.just tried this on a bfg 6800 ultra
