Interesting that these "8ms" monitors are anything but......

I agree with THG that the Hyundai ImageQuest L90D+ is a pretty good monitor. I also agree with his two negative observations that it is super-bright and the control switches are hard to operate as they are hidden and so small. Luckily you hardly ever have to use them.

I've been using the L90D+ for a few weeks now (via the DVI interface) for surfing, DVD's, editting home movies, editting digital photographs and FS2004. Absolutely no issues apart from the brightness of the image (which I haven't got round to turning down yet).

I love this bit because it reflects the real world position and how much of a marketing drive is behind "low response time" specifiations:

"We don't need to repeat it again: don't trust manufacturers' claims about response characteristics. Still, most people might be surprised to see a monitor that tests nearly 300% above its specifications (27ms instead of 8). With LCD monitors, this is par for the course."

My "20s" Hydis based panel performs in a similar range - 20-25ms - but most people won't touch it because they think a 8,10, or 12ms monitor is faster. The power of the number.....

Also the seemingly quote whatever they like for the number of colours 16.2 / 16.7 / 16.77 or is it just the retailers that are getting the specs wrong. At any rate I'm never certain with regard to the number of colours. Most of the time they don't list the technology so you don't know if the type is TN, MVA or IPS (I think I got that right)

The fact that new screens come to market faster than the hardware sites seem to be able to review them wouldn't be so bad if you could trust the manufacturers to give you a straight and trustworth specification.

I agree that a lot of the advertising is misleading. I bought my L90D+ from MicroDirect and they state it is 16.7m colours. So does the Hyundai Web site. But every review states it is 16.2m colours. I know that the L90D+ did get revised a few months back. The first models may have been 16.2m colours but I think that recent versions (with a new panel) are 16.7m. But I have no way of proving this.

I`m thinking of the L90D+ myself but Hyundai says it`s an A-Si panel and Microdirect just recently changed their description to a TN film and also changed it from 16.7m to 16.2m.
Who the hell can you trust with these things nowadays.
Might just settle for the Dell 2005 or similar for video and digital imaging and go back to the LG 1715s for gaming.
