    Question TFT refresh rate irritation

Right, I got a Viewsonic VX912B a couple of weeks ago and so far I'm more than happy with it. There's just one thing that's irritating me though so I though I'd throw this one to the amassed wisdom of the Hexites.

When I start the machine up into windows it is in 1280x1024x32 60Hz, no problem. If I start a game, even if I specify in the games settings, it moves to 75Hz at 1280x1024. Some games will do as they're told via .ini file settings, sometimes, but others just go into 75Hz even if you select 60Hz. VSync on or off it makes no diff. What's more annoying though is that upon exiting back to desktop, the screen stays at 75Hz.

Now here's where it gets odd, if I switch it back to 60Hz via the display properties the screen flashes and does the 'new settings ok?' carp but it's still in 75Hz. The monitor's info display states it and the rolling lines thing (another story but as most of you know a lot of TFTs are unhappy at 75Hz) is still there.

I can force it to go back to 60Hz with Multires but that's not a solution to the problem really. Is there a way to force all games to run at 60Hz or something?

Oh and it's on a 9800Pro with The latest Omega drivers.

What graphics card are you using? I know the ATi Catalyst drivers have an lock the refresh rate when playing games to the same refresh rate as the desktop settings.

^^^ He tells you what card and drivers he's using in his last sentence

Try Viewsonic for an updated Inf file for your monitor or, if you know what your doing, edit it manually.

Download the ATi Catalyst Top Ten Tips from this thread:

    http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.php?t=37259

One of the pages is entitles, "Refresh Rate Override". It tells you in there how to do it. I'm not at my machine right now but I know it is there as I have done this.

Ahhh, reason I had not seen that is because Omega drivers don't use the ATi CC so you don't get that option. I'll be whipping the Omegas off later then and slapping on the standard Cats.

    Gi that man a cookie.
