personally i would go for the 9700pro, you can get them for around £70 and a lot of them will clock to 9800pro speeds (or near as)

do not bother getting a 256mb card unless you intend doing a lot of art/animation work as the extra ram won't get used, so being a waste of money. It may eventually be used but by that time the new gen cards will be cheap enough

the All in Wonder gives you TVin/out and Vid in/out, ideal for a multimedia system.

ok thanks mrdata. I basically am looking to be able to run CS Source ok, as my ti4200 gets fps lag. Ive heard nvidia is the way to go unless ur looking at using AA, is this the case? I was looking at Nvidia 9550 or 9500 128mb. Wot u think of them, will they do the job?

    PC specs
    2100 athlon
    512 ddr
    60 gig hd
    ti4200 128mb(runs like a dog)

i'm pretty sure you're thing of ati not nvidia as the 9550 and 9500's are ati models. i had a 9600 a while ago which is simlar to the 9550 and it ran hl-2 and cs source fine (albiet at low settings with no AA AF.

personally i'd go for a 9500 out of the 2, some of these soft mod to 9700pro's!! retek have a few in stock, they also have the 9600pro's for only £50 odd which is cheap although its not a lot better than the 9600. but if you can stretch the 9700's are great but have gone up on that site, if you search you will find them second hnd for £70ish

Merlin - Mrdata2003 is offering solid advice. If you are looking to run CS Source then an ATI 9700 pro will do the job admirably. (you would have to try AA to see if it affected your gaming, but for Half-life2/CS source, then ATI is considered better than NVidia cards of the same price)

noahhowes is correct (and once again shows the quality of posters on Hexus, imho) 9550 aand 9500's are ati models. I have not soft-modded a 9500 to a 9700 pro, so I cannot give advice on that issue. Would you be comfortable to do that?

However, I can say that a 9700 pro from http://www.retekdirect.co.uk/acatalog/Video_Cards.html will run what you want as will the 9600 pro. I personally have a 9700 pro from retek in my pc and it has performed flawlessly (and with a mild overclock) for over a year and cost me £160. They have a 28 day "no questions" return policy.

if i remember correctly the 9500 will only softmod to a 9700 (not 9700pro) and its not guaranteed

its not difficult to do, you just need the Omega drivers also if you get a 9800se you can softmod that to a 9800pro using the Omega drivers, again its not guaranteed

if you do use the drivers and you get visual corruption then just uninstall those drivers and install the standard drivers
