9800 Pro v 6600GT (which is best for me?)

    Hey guys

Toying with the idea of getting a 6600GT and selling my 9800 Pro (it now works, it was a problem in my bios!!)

Just a quick few questions... will i notice it much, or for the money is it not worth me upgrading?

    Cheers

    Chris

have a look at some of the other similar threads, but i think you'll find the general concensus is tha the 6600gt as a touch faster in most things until you turn up the AA AF then the 980pro takes over slightly due to the 256mbit bandwidth.

there's not a lot in it really so in my opinion, no not woth the upgrade, you'll be pushed to notice the difference.

Think ill hold on to afford a 6800GT to be honest, for the extra bus bandwidth. I like the AA and AF to be on most games, makes it much easier on the eyes!

good decision, the 6800gt will give a huge performace boost over the 9800pro.

    But that's not the question.

    Go for the 6600gt.

Go for the 6600gt - and sell the 9800pro to me! With each new game my poor old Ti4600 struggles more and more.

Yup, the 6600GT is slightly faster, but has problems at higher resolutions and AA due to the 128 bit bus. I don't think it would be a worthwhile upgrade.

I have the 6600gt and its fantastic. get it. don't worry about the fact that people still love teh 9800 pro, the 6600gt is actually faster...and at only as few squids more its a bit of a no brainer. plus its aimed at future market and the 9800 is slowly going out. do't get me wrong the 9800 is a great card, I almost got it, but I didn't - I got the XFX 6600GT (from scan, which is often in their 'today only' page) and it comes overclocked as standard (up to 600/1000) so its pretty fast and will satisfy your gaming needs for some time to come!

edit: plus it has dual dvi sockets too

yeah the 6600gt is a great card, fantastic infact and if the upgrade is essentially free (ie you make enough of the 9800 to get the 6600gt for very little actual cash layed out) then great, but if its gonna cost you then you might want to think twice

So how much you wanna offer for my 9800 Pro then Ceefer?

Original ATI shipped from Canada with PAL settings, Arctic Cooler etc and fully boxed with all the wires? If its gonna cost me £30 or little over that for a 6600GT I might go ahead with it. Im liking those clock speeds see

yup, its not much of an 'up' grade more of a sideways move...if you're coming from a 9800 then I'd say got 6800...with the 6600 you won't notice much difference tbh. you will with the 6800!
if you're coming from nothing then 6600gt it is, otherwise worry not.

The 6800 is faster. The cheapest I could find was on LOW at £170. If you are willing to spend that much, I would go for it. I would have already bought it if I was willing to spend £170 on a graphics card.
