    17" 0r 19"

i'm on the brink of ordering a tft but i can't decide on whether to go for 17" or 19". obviously 17" is cheaper...but is there any benefit to buying a 19" at all?
on the 19" the resolution is the same as a 17", as is the refresh rate, contrast ratio is a bit greater tho...i know the 19 will make everything appear a bit bigger in comparison but over all would it still be a good buy for a 16ms 19" screen for less than £200? (incl delivery and vat)...is the image on the screen sharper with a 17"?

i plan on doing photoshopping and a bit of gaming (ut/UT2004 ) also a bit of msOffice (word/excel/power point...the usual stuff) for work [and the g/f's work]...

Depends on what you're planning to use it for.

I find that if using any multiple windowed applications eg. Macromedia, Office, Adobe etc, 19" is more preferable because small text, small icons, graphics are slightly larger. Doing any sort of graphic manipulation work is also easier. The same applies particularly to text based, either in word documents (2 pages to 1 screen sizing), programming (code can often half or less of the screen real estate etc). Obviously video playback is better on a bigger screen.

For general windows work / web browsing, and games its doesn't make much difference.

As for that, you're looking at the bottom of the rung, entry level monitor so I hope you're not expecting miracles.

was only wondering if its realy worth spending £50 more on a 19 than a 17. the 17 i found is 12ms and the 19 is 16ms...
I currently use a 17" crt (taking up the best part of the room, blocks all natural light and is forcing me towards the door) but would like something better and that takes up less space. Aria do a good few tfts, some dell ones in there too...
    here's one (the 19")
    https://www.aria.co.uk/ProductInfoComm.asp?ID=15779
    and heres another (the 17")
    http://www.aria.co.uk/productinfocom...pecialStatus=1
my bro has a 17" LG 1710 and its the muts nuts so would love something similar, currently can find the LG 17's at about £170 (scan's all week offer, but then p+p is a real killer!). how do the Dell's compare?

what ever I get I do anticipate using it for a reasonable amount of photoshop-ing as its part of my 'computer re-do' before I get my digital camera i.e. the main reason I'm getting decent parts is to complement the camera I intend getting.

p.s there's also the dvi input digimate tft at aria, cheaper than aria's own one
    http://www.aria.co.uk/ProductInfoComm.asp?ID=16906
no spces on aria but i checked digimate's website and its the same as aria's (i believe the two are identical) I have no idea why it cheaper. would this seem too cheap to anyone looking for decent screens? I know the more you pay the better things are but on the face of it - and with prices dropping all the time - this doesn't seem that bad... does it?

just had a thought, is the resolution between a 17 and 19 is the same is there a distortion of displayed images at all due to screen size changes?

To be honest with you, I personally would get a high end 17" if the price difference is only £50. As others have commented, you'll be looking at the bottom end of the 19" range and you might be disappointed with the quality compared to a high end 17". If the price difference was £150+ then I reckon 19" would be better.

Also remember that a 17" TFT has more viewable area than a 17" CRT.

indeed. i@ve found various 17's with DVI outputs just not sure on what makes are good. there's an iiyama at komplett and a viewsonic at lowestonweb.com...
thinking DVI is the way to go, many of these do both dvi and dsub so i'd obviously go dvi if available.

Ive used a couple of the digimate (aria own branded ones) and they were very impressive, very bright, no ghosting and no dead pixels... for the money i couldnt see anything wrong with them,

shiato how about one of these http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/lcd30.html

tbh i would go with the one with the highest response time, but on the other hand i have a 25ms samsung panel and i notice no ghosting.
