Not posted for a long time as like took over
Well my Titan x went up in smoke last week so I'm in need of a new card
Not a huge gamer but would like to be able to play when I want to, the Titan was far more powerful than I needed (battlefield ect)
I don't really have a budget

New Nvidia cards are launching in the next few months and you also have a 4K monitor,and we have just come off the mining craze too which jacked up prices,so I would wait a few months TBH and use a temporary graphics card for now.
You really expecting much better value for money out of the next generation of cards? Or stonking new features? If we are lucky we might see an 1180 that is as fast as a 1080ti. If an 1180 is the same cost as a 1080ti, then you might as well buy a 1080ti now. If the 1180 is the same cost as a 1080, then you save £250 (£500 vs £750) by waiting a few months for the 1180 to come out. Yay crystal ball guesswork :DQuote:

Unlike most enthusiasts on forums I keep cards for years so don't tend to buy cards at the end of their lifespan now especially Nvidia ones since we see a repeating pattern.
For me waiting a few months is nothing since cards last for years.
But then I am more patient than most! ;)

Edit: Perhaps for 4K gaming a Vega 64 would work out. Prices are getting back to sane now, I am waiting to see how bad my car repair bill is to see if I can afford a Vega 56 :D

Nah,top end performance only lasts for when the card is current,as Nvidia needs to sell the new gen and I have owned the last few gens of Nvidia cards too and you can see it happening.Quote:

Enthusiasts do this all the time though,they panic and rush into buying old tech at FULL PRICE close to a new launch and then within a year regret it.

Mining and AMD misfiring have meant graphics card pricing has gotten worse than a year to 18 months ago with a stronger pound now.
There are plenty of cards you can get second-hand which will do the trick. My old GTX960 4gb would still do the job even now if I dropped settings and resolution.
I run hypermodded FO4 which thrashes my GTX1080 at qHD. If that went kaput I would reduce the settings and res,and drop the graphical mods and use the GTX960.
No way am I paying £250 for a GTX1060 or RX580 now.
The added bonus of waiting is that deals will start to appear. Examples include GTX980TI cards for under £300 when the same cards were £500 to £600 a few months earlier.
The OP said they are not a huge gamer too,so they might as well wait IMHO!
The whole new Nvidia card coming out soon is bothering me abit tbh, I was expecting to get a couple more years out of my Titan before I needed something new
Currently I have put my old HD6950 in my system but it's not ideal having a max res of 1920x1080 but it still runs some of older games I play such as BFBC2/3
I have noticed a 1080 on scan for £460 and on very for £410
Isn't your Titan X still under warranty??AFAIK,EVGA had longer warranties and they used to be transferable.
Came with a 3 year warranty that expired a month before it died
I would seriously consider seeing whether you can get EVGA to at least try repairing the card,or even giving you a money off voucher for your next one. After all it was a very expensive card you bought!!
Little more detail, I got it used but as a 7 month old card (rma) and showing 909 days left on the warranty
The first thing I did when it died was to contact eVGA UK phone support which was a call centre based in India which where no help at all, then I contacted eVGA on their website with the reply from them

That surprises me, are you using DVI/hdmi or something? I would have thought a card like that would have displayport or mini-dp? My son is driving a 4K screen using DisplayPort to HDMI adaptor which works OK and the adapter was pretty cheap from Amazon.Quote:

Was the Maxwell yes, I just used HDMI as I had planned on visiting Scan or OCUK this week and get a replacement so spending more on extra leads was not something I had considered, I know the monitor has most connections and the GPU has a couple on mini DP's
That's fair enough, the 6950 is a very old card about on par with modern IGP so I can understand not wanting to invest money in it :) I haven't seen a mini-dp port on a recent video card either they seem to just go with full sized connectors, so it wouldn't be that useful a lead to have long term (unless like us you have business laptops kicking around).Quote:

I'd say that the gtx1080 might not be that bad an option, but overall the cost is still overly high from where it should be when new cards come out
Just had a mini dp to dp cable delivered and got my res back to 3840x2160 which is a huge improvement
Still undecided to get a card now or wait, prices seem to be coming down as aot of places are now trying to shift stock
If you are undecided, then I guess you aren't that bothered by lack of performance :)

If you can wait..then wait :) I plan on swapping my 1080 FE for one of the new cards and I imagine there will be many other suckers like me who are not too bothered by the price and will buy the first crop of new cards, and will be putting their old ones up for sale, so you'll be able to pick up a 1080 for a sensible price then (or indeed an equivalent of the new generation for more). Just need to be careful to buy one off a gamer and not someone who's also used it for mining.

What resolution do you play?
If 1080p then the 1050ti or 1060 will do you perfectly fine
If 1440p then I would recommend the gtx 1070 or 1070 ti
If 4K Go for the 1080 or 1080ti or rtx 2080/2080 ti
Just purchased a Asus Geforce Strix gtx 1070, the cost is much lower than the 1080 equivalent, when i compared price vs performance for me the 1070 won hands down.
I,m not a huge gamer but do a lot of motorcycle mx/green lane videos and it does every thing i want a lot quicker than before and never gets hot, think the cooling system on the card is outstanding.
