Interesting to see on some of the graphs it was toe to toe with a 2400G apu running in single memory channel, also DDR4 and about the same bandwidth.

That indicates to me,AMD has made improvements in their bandwidth usage with Vega.

Sorry, what? There've been tons of graphics cards over the last ten years that have dropped to standard DDR from a higher grade of GDDR. DDR2/GDDR3, DDR3/GDDR5, I'm pretty sure there've even been cards that came with 512MB GDDR3 or 1GB DDR3. And yes, the ones with slower memory always perform much worse.

I just can't respect any article that starts with such a pile of nonsense....

Given the near constant male-bovine-excrement that goes on in the low end card segment this really doesn't surprise me.
Who remembers the gt630? 4 different versions and 3 different gpu's all called the same thing all with different performance levels

Nvidia didn't do it with the 900 series only because they never released a low end card in that series.

I must admit that this time it's an impressive performance hit for lowering the ram type, in the past it was normally the binned cut down higher end chips that showed the big performance jumps, memory bandwidth was less of an issue because the gpu's where not powerful enough to take advantage of it (or be crippled by it)
