1080ti gets slower after 5 minutes
I've just picked up an Inno3D 1080ti X4 and have an odd issue with it. When I first turn the PC on everything is fine and for the first couple of benchmarks all is great and the card is fast. However after a couple of tests the scores plummet. For example running Firestrike in 3DMark I get a GPU score of 28k+ for the first couple of runs, but then it'll drop to ~15k, then ~10k.
I've used Afterburner and the Inno3D software and everything seems normal. GPU temps never get higher than 72 degrees, all clock speeds look good and there's loads of ram available. I've reinstalled the drivers, I've even done a clean Windows 10 install and still have the same problem.
My specs are: i7 8700K at 5GHz, Gigabyte Auros 7 board and 32GB Corsair RAM. I previously had a 1080 in the same setup with no issues at all.
Any suggestions?

cheap its seated correctly and cheap power connections are in proper, also check if you have any conflicting software running
Re: 1080ti gets slower after 5 minutes
Sounds like throttling for heat. What are the temps like ? Does the problem do sway if you take the side of the case off ?

Have you thoroughly uninstalled the previous drivers, using DDU? Sounds drivery.

I’ve taken it out a couple of times and reseated it, might try a different PCIe slot though.

Hits a max of 72 degrees C and about 45 idle but the backplate does feel really hot. I’ve had the side off and a large fan blowing on it and makes no difference at all.

Yep, I tried DDU, then went for a clean install with just the nVidia drivers and 3DMark, same thing happens.
Power supply is a Corsair 1kw, so hopefully that’s not the problem. But right now I have no idea what’s going on.
Re: 1080ti gets slower after 5 minutes
Firestrike also tests the cpu at some stage, if I remember right. Is it possibly cpu temps?
Re: 1080ti gets slower after 5 minutes
Check that the fans are actually spinning. I recently returned an EVGA GTX1080 due to the fans not turning no matter what temp it got up to.
Do not rely on software, actually have a look. Reason being was the RPM of the fans was increasing as the temp was going up however the fans weren't actually turning!

I’ve seen other reports of this problem, well worth checking and easy to do!

CPU temps are fine. I’ve even taken off the overclock and am running at 100% stock. Every benchmark and game I throw at it has the same problem. The first couple I run are fine, but then anything afterwards is cut in half.

I’ve just had a look and all 4 of the fans are spinning.
Re: 1080ti gets slower after 5 minutes
Is the card new or did you buy it second hand? Just wondering if a dodgy capacitor or something near the end of its life could cause an issue like this. Probably unlikely but you've tried the obvious stuff...
Re: 1080ti gets slower after 5 minutes
It’s brand new bought from Overclockers. Made in May 2018. Might just have to RMA it and see if another is the same.

Re: 1080ti gets slower after 5 minutes
Sounds like they didn't sit that cooler correctly! If you don't want to disassemble it, RMA it or contact your vendor.
Re: 1080ti gets slower after 5 minutes
vague possibility that your CPU needs heatsink reseating and new thermal paste? ie it's not the card
Stick that card in another computer if you can.
or... put diff card in your PC and check that CPU / Fan combo

Send it back or ask on OC UK for un
Re: 1080ti gets slower after 5 minutes
Is your CPU overclock stable? Run the CPU at stock and see if the issue persists.
