Re: Nvidia RTX series review thread

Yea loads of them seem to be dying.

Sadly people only look at FPS benchmarks and not how the hardware is constructed. I've suspected for a while that Nvidia are building cards on the cheap, using components which are barely good enough. By comparison AMD tend to use much better quality memory (HBM2 these days), VRMs, etc which can handle the heat and voltage a lot better.

When you work in IT running large networks you pick up on the things that don't last and Nvidia cards are in that list, along with Dell PSUs and Seagate HDDs. The 20 series is clearly not well constructed and it's frankly shocking for the amount of money they are asking for them.

It could be a possibility. Maybe because the last version was a bust.

Have you played on Battlefield 5 with RTX enabled? I thought it was bleeding awesome.

Re: Nvidia RTX series review thread

I haven't, that comment was based on the few videos I've watched of multiplayer posted on YT today with it enabled.

Maybe they don't do it justice but they've certainly left me questioning if I'd pay £1k odd for it, not that i have a spare £1k knocking around.

Re: Nvidia RTX series review thread

Hardware Unboxed's video certainly shows some massive drops in performance, but this is the very first implementation, within a beta, of a game that is already one of the best graphical showcases.

I've been playing at 1440p with a 2080Ti, overclocked to the limit, and with G-Sync I'm finding it to be more than playable in the story. Obviously, it's likely that I'll turn off the RTX features when I play online to achieve the 120-140FPS region of performance but it certainly looks fantastic in certain scenarios.

A screenshot I grabbed last night using NVIDIA Ansel

I Totally agree, instead of blazing through a level, I am actually stopping to look at objects I'd never think twice about looking at before. Personally I think it's very impressive.

GN did a comparison of the BFV tech demo with what ended up in the game, it's worth a watch even if it's just for outtake at the start.
