    New AGP Products Arrive !

    Hi All,

I know that there has been a lot of discussion in these forums that ATI should have had more AGP cards in the market

We have now addressed these concerns/requests - you can read more about it here...

Good news! I think there are a lot of people that would rather upgrade piecemeal, and to have the option to not go PCI-E immediately, but still have, say, an X800XL has to be a good thing.

That's definately a good move on ATI's part And good news for all of us who don't want to, or can't afford to move to PCI-E just yet.

TBH, ATI stated that they'd intro the X800XL at $299; that's about £156 ex VAT, £184 inc VAT. Now they haven't quite hit that pricing in the US either, but they're coming in at around £210-£220 over here for your Sapphires and Connect3Ds (OK, the Powercolor VIVO ones are a bit more), so they're not HUGELY far off it, and they are becoming available. If ATI are already shipping the AGP parts in quantity, and they're anywhere around that price point then you're still looking at a 6800GT-rivalling AGP card for quite a few notes less, so I'm not going to complain...

man, i hope i can find an extra 50 quid somewhere, i really want an XL instead of a 6600gt

i prefer ATI as a company over nVidia but it sucks because the ATI cards in my price range get pwned by 6600gts, i just hope i can find a way of buying a XL or just a vanilla x800

otherwise im gonna end up with a card that i dont really like but must have because its the best for the price! !Dilemma!

    All fair comments !

One thing I noticed during conversations in the past 2 weeks is that many companyies (i.e. supplying both kinds of card) have a policy about how the 'gift box' should arrive

These guys are marketing experts - so if they include something like a 'game bundle' - then they will do it because it works

However, every little thing you add to the package will have some kind of cost implication

I have not seen a 'vanilla' card over here in Northern Europe...

...do any you know if the suppliers in other parts of the world do a 'card+box+driver+nothig else' package ?

I never jump on the "next gen band wagon" The return on investment is so low that it's like burning money.

I waited till the prices for the 9800 pro droped to a level that i could accept (169 iirc)

I refuse to pay more then 200 quid for a gfx card and this i have stuck with

    3dFX Voodoo5 5500 AGP 100 quid

Albatron TI4200p Turbo 135 quid new

Rad 9500pro 110 (clocked it to 9700pro speeds, lubby )

Rad 9600XT 125 (Replaced my 9500pro cos i killed it trying to take the shim off, never in the same league has the 9500 though)

Rad 9800pro 169 (Quick Replacement for the dead 9600XT, yes thats right i managed to kill 2 rad's....bot of them connect3d's , sold the replacement 9600xt i got back from rma so this card cost me 69 quid bargin or wat )

are the ones that spring to mind the most.

I wait to see what makes the best use of the parts that are out, take the ti4200.

This was a ti4600 pcb with a ti4200 core slapped on it and boy did it over clock like a deamon thus it gave me more use out of it so when every one was going to the new rads, i could still use my ti4200 happy

If the price if the X800XL is the right side of 200 and i manage to sell this 9800pro for wat i want then the upgrade is only going to set me back at most 120 quid which is more what i like to pay.

No offense ment to ati or nvidia, but where not all made of money, we all don't have 3ghz + cpus to push the new all singing all dancing cards to the limits.

I would rather use the money on other things like more memory/hdd sapce better mouse keyboard, better audio, things that last a lot long then a gfx card upgrade.

Question, now that Shuttle have got a nF4 based shuttle out the door, any chance we might see some compatition from you guys ? whould be nice to see a ATI powerd shuttle

    Good points about the pricing

The best bang per buck to be had from any 'performance' card right now is the X800XL - by quite some distance*

Next down the list would be the 6600GT and regular X800 - both of which have a very similar value proposition (i.e. bang-per-buck)... however the additional 4 pipelines on the X800 gives it a minster performance capability for the money

ATI's HyperMemory products will actually have the best price/performance ratio anywhere - but they target a very specfic (albeit massive) market

As far as the ATI relationship with Shuttle goes - this was the scene on the Shuttle stand at last year's CeBIT show...

Those boxes are red for a reason

    * Obviously check this for yourself - but when I test across HL2, FC/P and D3 - with a spread of pricing from the major stores - this is what I get

The X800XL is why i waited, it's not a castrated card like the others are

The reviews coming in to me from across Northern Europe are pretty unanimous - so getting one of these cards is a great idea

Your main choice will be whether to go for active or passive cooling - both are possible with the new R430 architecture

When a product does this well, then that will naturally draw a reaction from others - which creates an overall 'forward push' in the market

I know that initially, it seems that the X800XL is only good for those customers interested in ATI...

...but it actually has overall benefits for everyone

Ferrari might win Formula 1 every year - but it also ensures that everyone else's cars end up going a bit faster as they rush to catch the leader
