    Who makes quality dvi cables?

Does anyone have advice for someone who makes good DVI cables? I need some not only for Video Card to Monitor, but also for Video card to TV. These cable will be used in a home theater setting as well as computer gaming. I have heard alot of the cables included with monitors and video cards are crap. So what the deal? Thanks

If it's DVI then unless the cable is a complete writeoff it shouldn't matter too much - it's a digital signal after all.

My advice would be to use the ones that were supplied by the card manufacturer and see whether the picture quality is good enough. For the monitor I would expect the supplied cable to be fine.

For the telly it will depend on how big the screen is. The larger the screen the more noticable artifacting will be. A £20 cable will do the job fine (cost will depend on length of cable too)

Lektropacks are well known on avforums and supply quality kit.

it is a digital signal so it really shouldnt be affected by nothing but really bad cable , its binary code that is sent it either gets there or doesnt

eg either great quality or you notice really bad artifacts on screen

correct me if i'm wrong but even with binary, can you not develop errors along the signal path leading to a lower quality signal? i think this only realy has an effect over long cables not normal 2-3m ones tho?

yes it will happen and i doubt any cable can transmit every signle bit of data 100% of the time

but your hardly going to notice a few bits here or there with the amount of data tht gets pushed through a dvi connection each second

and in theory because its digital it should be more resistant to emi than analogue signals

were bordering on a very in depth topic here with all the different types of interfernce and degradation that can affet dvi and rgb for our connections ..........

DVI does not have error checking.. so semi-decent cables are important..

I use the ones that came with my viewsonic Vx912 (think they were belkin branded ones), and I have noticed no artifacts atall.. so I think for mine it is good enough...

If you cant notice artifacts with theone you have then I would not buy a new cable...

Quality DVI cables are definitely important.

I'm don't have enough electronic expertise to talk about it in detail, but from a end-user perspective my experiences have been that different quality / priced cables can result in slightly odd interference patterns on screen.

I have 3 different ones (£4.99 cheap generic, manufactuer cable, and a £40 gold plated Belkin). The cheap generic one (and its refunded replacement) results in tiny small green dots runnning up and down the left and right borders of the screen (between the panel and the bezel border). The manufacturer supplied cable and the Belkin were fine.

My rule for cables is (roughly) if it's gold plated then you have semi-decent cable (and above). If it ain't gold plated then don't bother, change it for a quality one.

I appreciate the input everyone. So what the right price range in US dollars? In other words what is overkill and what is too cheap?
