    Advice needed on GFX card

I presently have an old system that my son is about to get a hold of as I'm building myself a new shuttle.

The question is is it worth repalcing my old gfx card with a new one to prolong it's life.

    Here's the specs:

    1.3 Duron
    768 mb ram
    15 & 60 gig hard drive
    64mb geforce 3 ti200
    17" monitor

Any advice given would be gratfully appreciated.

    Thanxs

nope. your duron is gona bottneck your system. i would recomend getting a amd xp 2800 on ebay, along with a 9700/9800 this will run you aprox 200 for both combined. and would make your system capable of playing the latest games and prolong its life along time.

Your best bet is just to get a new system. The first thing you need is a new motherboard and CPU - this thread is worth a look: http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.php?t=34128

First question would be - "what does he intend to do with it?" The gpu is probably the most capable part of that system and will be able to play a lot of older games with no problems. If he's not going to be playing newer games I don't think thats too bad a system. I would assume that the ram is SDRAM PC133? The 1.3 Duron was fairly late on in the life of the durons so would think the motherboard might support an XP (prob Palomino) cpu of decent higher rating. Do you know what the mobo is?

Sorry for not replying sooner but I've been working away from home.

Yes the ram is pc 133 and the motherboard is a Abit KT7 so I believe the fastest cpu I gould put in it is an old 200fsb 1.4 Athlon.
