Re: RMA a second hand card.
You can try, but the odds sren't good. Most warranties aren't transferable so unless the MSI one is, or they decide to offer a goodwill gesture, you've no way forward.
But then it eas sold ss spares or repairs, so ....
Re: RMA a second hand card.
Thanks. Raised a ticket. Can but ask.
And yes, easily sold as spares. Never know, the 580 might arrive in the meantime.
Re: RMA a second hand card.
Well, one thing is certain - you don't ask, you won't get. And asking costs nowt.
In other words, it can do no harm. There certainly have been occasions when, presumably for the sake of positive customer relations, companies have been far more generous with me than either law or their warranty required of them .... and it resulted in much repeat trade.
Conversely, there are companies where poor customer service has resulted in me never using them again. And never will.
So sure, it's possible. Good luck.
Re: RMA a second hand card.
Already had a reply back from MSI who say it's covered by warranty and to email their UK RMA directly. So I have done exactly that.
I await their response.
Re: RMA a second hand card.
Looks like a result. I have heard before that MSI CS is good.
One more mild word of caution. A warranty won't cover all reasons a product might fail. It's possible that when they get the card, they'll discover the reason for failure invalidates the warranty. Or they might replace it even so, for the sake of good customer relations.
I use a tailor with an online presence, and their warranty used to be 2 months, regardless of the condition of returned items. Worn it and don't like it, no problems. Spilt red wine down it or cigar ash burned a hole, no problem. Dog tore a hole in it, sure, we'll replace it.
I queried if they meant it? Yup, they said.
Why?, says I.
Their logic was that they want customers to feel absolutely confident buying, sight unseen, that they're covered if the don't like it for ANY reason. Sure, a smsll number abuse it but, they said, surprisingly few. And if someone does take the pee, they simply decline further orders.
Me? I've never needed to return anything to them.
Re: RMA a second hand card.
I can vouch for MSI. They replaced my m/board for free, after pins were bent removing the CPU.
Re: RMA a second hand card.
I emailed the dept MSI CS gave me. They have said they can't accept it unless it goes via the distributor. So I've gone back to CS.
However, I have now bought another Radeon 580 from Amazon UK. Hopefully this one will turn up.
If MSI get back to me and say they will take the 1060, great. I can get that fixed up and resell it.
If not then I can sell on as spares regardless.
Re: RMA a second hand card.
MSI didn't get back to me. Ended up selling the card for more than I got it for. So, once the ebay fees are taken off, I'll probably make the smallest of profits. All's well that ends well.
