    Naff FPS...

In CS 1.6. Used to get high FPS in previous version of about 60. Now it seems to slip between 40 and 60, sometimes as low as 20!! I am running a Geforce 4 ti4200 and this is a screen dump i took of the AA if this helps at all:

Monitor is set at maximum refresh rate of 85hz to.

All advice welcome, i want to get the frames high again!

With a ti4200 u should get 100fps on cs no matter what, v-sync off and fps_max 101 in console?

    I have tried:

No V-Sync --> I get tearing + No FPS increase

fps_max 101 --> I ran this first, gave me a large increase to where i am now (between 40 and 60)

Moved Intellisample Settings --> This didn't have an effect either way.

I have noticed that the refresh rate on my monitor 'appears' a lot lower in game (it hurts ur eyes!!), how would it be possible to keep the refresh rate higher i.e at my desktop default of 85??

It appears it has been a refresh issue cos FPS since running that proggy seems to have settled now

It isn't acceptable really for it to be doing that...it should be churning out far higher. I am not impressed with STEAM at all, i am impressed with new CS from what i have seen so far tho

i get 100fps solid, even with the entire screen full of smoke! i've played CS the last few days after having not played it for the past 2 years, Steam is without doubt the worst example of programming i've ever had the displeasure of using! CS 1.6 is poor, they've added numerous new bugs, most of the maps remain dire, the shield makes for an incredibly boring game and every revision seems to make the game slower (since 2 years ago at least), it was a far better game when you could bunnyhop, it added some speed, now you get frozen the ground each time you jump!

They are tweaking what was once a perfect game, and adding bits that are quite frankly slow and not needed I could handle introducing new weapons, and that shield is quite funny IMO, but they are going way over the top...

the fps issue is because of how much memory steam uses and is in constant use while playing. It is something like 23megs, thats nearly 2times as much as explorer uses. If you stripped steam away fps would be as normal. Steam is a great idea in concept, just poorly implimented.
