From the look of this, if you want to play Assassin's Creed Odyssey at 1440p on Ultra you could do with a 2080

But that's all down to how much you want Ultra settings. Personally I would rather game at 1440p at lower settings, the smaller pixels do add something.

Some people are too scared of lowering the settings, as a rule of thumb I go with the default Ultra settings and turn down some of the fogging, shadowing, fsaa settings to keep the frame rates up.

The price of a gpu to run ultra is not worth it in my opinion

Re: Upgrade from GTX670 to GTX1660 or 1660Ti?

I decided on sticking to 1080p gaming for now, and bought a Gigabyte GTX1660Ti Windforce OC. All ready to go, I installed the card and unfortunately my PC won't boot beyond the Asus BIOS POST with the new card installed. My motherboard is the P8Z68-V Pro/Gen 3. The PC powers on, the new GPU fans start up, there are no POST errors or beep codes. It seems like the whole PC hangs at the Asus POST logo stage because the keyboard input doesn't work, so I can't even get into the BIOS at that point. When I re-install my GTX670, the PC completes POST and boots as normal.

I have tried plenty to get it working but nothing has changed the above behaviour with the GTX1660Ti installed: double-checked cabling, tried installing the new card in both PCIe16 slots, connecting a different VGA rail from the PSU (EVGA SuperNova 750W G2, so it has plenty of juice to run the new card). I also reset the BIOS to default settings, configured the BIOS to use PCIe for graphics, and also upgraded the BIOS from v3703 to the latest available BIOS, v3802. None of this has changed the above behaviour.

Have I missed something obvious or is the new card faulty? As far as I can work out, the fact that my i5 2500K only supports PCIe 2.0 should not matter as the motherboard is the Gen3 and supports PCIe 3.0

Re: Upgrade from GTX670 to GTX1660 or 1660Ti?

Update: I got the new GPU working by resetting the CMOS. Now there's a new sting in the tail. One of the fans on the new GPU vibrates loudly when gaming/under load when the fan speed goes above around 80%. Looks like this new card is going to have to be RMA'd.

Not having much luck! You bought a nice card though will be gaming on that for a least 2 years minium and can do some 1440p. RMA will hopefully sort out your fan issue.

Re: Upgrade from GTX670 to GTX1660 or 1660Ti?

Fortunately I bought it via Amazon and they have processed the RMA very quickly. I should get the replacement on Friday. Hopefully it was a one-off bad fan bearing.

I just noticed when I ordered my last GPU - I bought the Gigabyte GTX 670 Windofrce 3X in July 2012! I'm amazed it lasted that long.
