    b0rked x850XT PE?

Just been playing with Atitool on my X850XTPE and I notice that its getting errors at stock speed.. the GPU temp is hitting 80°c with the stock cooler..

Id like to know if anyone else is having the same problem at that temperature - I think it only happens when it gets hot...

Now the question becomes should I try watercooling it or send it back?

I think I should watercool it.. as with my previous ATI cards (5 r3xx based cards), they would all hit the same speeds when kept below 40°c..

BUT I dont want to have a card that I cant return.. that isnt worth the £329 I payed for it.. Afterall I bought this cardwith the hope of watercooling it and getting 700mhz+ (maybe a bit optimistic.. but I did get 470 on a 9700np which has stock of 275..)

Also I find it quite stupid that the catalyst control center only shows the temp measured somewhere on the pcb.. and not the temp of the acctual gpu.. which can be 30°c differnt under load..

Edit: sticking the fan speed upto 100% seems to be fine.. its now ~65°c according to atitool...

My fan has recently started to go screwey. Its making a high pitching whine and the occasional grinding noise, think its safe to say its on its say out.
No artifacting yet, guess its just a matter of time though.
Did you get it from LOW ?, as mines from there too....

There no problem with the fan on mine.. at some speeds it does make a very high pitched whine.. try changing the speed...

The problem is actually that when left @ defualt (and not changable with any ATI supplied software) the fan would run too slow. As soon as the gpu hits 70 it starts to produce errors. I dont think this is particually good... many people will have dead cards because of this, I think.

I will be watercooling the gpu in the next week.. but first I am building a new waterblock specifically for it.

    Hi Silent,

Could you please give me a dump of your X850XTPE Bios? What manufacturer is your card?

    Cheers,

    sitdowncolonel.
