    Optiplex 755 help

Hello all. I need to upgrade my graphics card in my optiplex 755 small form factor running Windows XP, as it is not cutting it for the games I want to play. I have a tiny budget of at maximum £30 but I would be upset to see that amount of money go. Of course because it’s sff I have a tiny space to work with. I intend to buy used and get something better than a gt 730. I am also getting a Core2duo e8500 for reference so as not to bottleneck either. Thanks in advance!

    Re: Optiplex 755 help

Have you opened the machine up?

Potentially the bigest issue you might face is being able to power a gfx card depending on what size PSU is in it and if it has any 6 pin power connectors to plug into a card.

If not you are going to have to contend with trying to find a small gfx card and one that can be powered just from the port.

For that the list isnt that long and its worth finding out how much extra performance they would be able to bring above the 730 you already have.

Its been a while since I cracked a 755 open, pretty sure they have 250/280 PSU's in there, don't think they have a 6 pin, just the motherboard and SATA connectors.

You might be better off looking for local deals on Facebook marketplace for older machines that would give you a better start point..

    Re: Optiplex 755 help

I think the biggest problem will be driver support. Pascal does not have xp support in latest drivers afaia, the low profile suff is pretty expensive and hard to get ahold of. If you get a gtx 750 you would be at the limits of the power consumption. I heard that some of the older oem boards don't provide the standard 75w through the PCI-E .
