As per title really....what is it?
I better give a reason I guess ;)
My Dad has just picked up what may or may not be a bargain.
If you Google that model, it comes with a lot of stuff about ALDI the cut price supermarket.
Well...they are selling (and have today sold, cos Dad's gone home with one!!) a PC with an Intel 64bit chpi (yup...I thought the'd only just come out too) 1gig or ram, loads of other stuff (DVD-R, firewire, W-Lan, He's got wireless keyboard n mouse, blah blah blah.etc)
AND a Radeon X740 XL vid card.
On a PCI express socket by all accounts.
All for £749 inc vat.
What is it? It has, by all acounts, an Aerial input, so it must have a TV card I guess.
Is it a cut priced All In Wonder?
BEYOND3D have got it as this :

RV410
Core: 450 Mem :450
128bit mem controller with GDDR3
8 pipes, 16 textures per pass,
So...imn THEORY my old man has just brought a monster for spread sheets.!!
a 3.2 P4 64bit is about £180 alone.

Seems to be better than the x700s
is Andrezj about? I'll go dig him in the ribs ;)
Those Aldi PC's are a bargain from what I've seen...
It's Saturday... give the guy a break :P
No....I'm at work, so should he be ;)
SLAAAAAP
he's pleased.....and so am I cos it saves me trying to build him a full spec PC fr £750 with all that gear
I don't think you could do it tbh.
I saw this at a mates house on Wednesday and guessed it was upwards of x700 performance - that is an absolutely bargainous prebuild in terms of bits, especially with that 64 bit chip in there...one wonders why they went for that over an athy 64 though...
Probably because their target market have heard of Intel and probably don't know who AMD are.
nahh...bet they just brought the first batch of chips at a bargain price and off they went.
ALDI PCs are always great from what I've seen. My dad is still running a 2ghz p4 machine he got from them a few years ago and he's had absolutely no problems whatsoever.
Thery're always great value as well.
It is one of the bizarre things about this industry - that a major corporation could sell you a ready made PC - complete with warranty/OS etc - for less than you could buy the parts...Quote:

It's not very often that they come along though, but this really is a good deal.
I think Lidi do the AMD equivalent time to time. I'm tempted to go back to desktops, although this Amilo A1630 + Server has me glued...
Talk of which, they have one cheap sempron mum and dad system , and one Athlon 64 laptop , avail this thursday : http://www.lidl.co.uk/gb/index.nsf/p...20050331.index
