Re: Advice please - clicking Sapphire Radeon RX 5700 XT Nitro+
Hi both,
I'm really sorry I've tried to reply multiple times from my phone, but they don't seem to be appearing. I really appreciate the help. It was bought from overclockers, it wasn't the special edition card, but otherwise is the same as your post. Assuming they had the same t&cs I guess this means there is a 90 day warranty from when it was bought so I'll contact overclockers / sapphire to check. I'm interested in the idea to replace the fans should this not work, but I assume this would involve soldering? Or are they just connected in the same manner as case fans to a motherboard? Thanks again, sorry about the reply issue.
Re: Advice please - clicking Sapphire Radeon RX 5700 XT Nitro+
OcUK forum has a customer service forum, where you can post a query about this and explain the situation. The clicking sound isn't too uncommon for that model of RX5700XT apparently:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comment...ro_rx_5700_xt/
From what I gather it might be coil whine too. If the sound is definitely coming from the fan,it's would be a bearing having problems. Luckily Sapphire actually sell replacement fans for the RX5700XT Nitro+ as it has removable fans.

Thanks that's great news I'll read through the link and look into the fans, maybe that's the easiest option. I'll have to YouTube coil whine but I'm guessing either way replacing the fans would be a solution?

Coil whine is related to the power delivery, not fans, so you'd probably have to live with it if it's that.

Sorry I think as I'm new my messages need to be moderated before appearing, so there is a delay and they're appearing before your comments in the thread, but after you post. I also thought I'd submitted a comment about where it was from, but it hasn't shown up so I must have done something wrong. The card was from overclockers, it wasn't listed as second hand and I was under the impression it was either a return or an ex demo, but I may be wrong. I plan on contacting overclockers to query the warranty question.
I hadn't thought about replacing the fans. If sapphire do sell them would they just have connectors similar to the motherboard or would they be soldered on? I'm a pretty sufficient diyer in terms of home stuff, but I'm not sure I'd fancy taking a soldering iron to the card.
Thanks again for all the help and sorry about the weird comment order/ timing thing.
Yes that is exactly what was happening i'm afraid which made my responses look a bit odd

Thanks, I'll read up on it and see if I need to try and return the card or want to live with it then. I assume living with it is an option from your comment though, i.e. it doesn't impact lifetime / performance?
Thanks for everyone's help, much appreciated!

I'm sure there'll be some Youtube videos that demonstrate coil whine. Personally I wouldn't describe it as a 'clicking' noise though; in my experience it sounds a bit like an old-fashioned gas kettle whistling when the water is boiling :) I've got an MSI 970 that has coil whine, but it depends on which game I'm playing. In some games it's really prominent, others not at all. Static menu screens in games sometimes suffer from it, because the framerate will spike to hundreds of fps. Then in the game itself, the whine disappears.

One that model it's one screw per fan with fancy connectors so you don't need to mess around with wires, and you don't even need to remove the rest of the cooler. From the bit-tech review:

That does look cool / easy! Ha now I want to take it apart just to have a play! Thanks for all the help, I'm feeling less stressed about it being a major issue now I know fixing it could be a fairly easy DIY job.

Just take each fan out in turn until you find the clicking one

Thanks I think that's what I'll do. I've just had a response from overclockers and they said there is no manufacturers warranty, but there is the 90 day warranty with them. Last time I checked there weren't anymore b-grade cards on their website so unless they can fix it I assume they'll just offer money back. I only paid £320 for the card so I won't be able to get a replacement with prices being impacted by covid.
I read up on coil whine a bit and got the impression it's not necessarily counted as a reason to return a card under warranty, as it doesn't impact performance (?) So if it is that I might not get any joy from returning it. Alternatively if it's an issue with one of the fans overclockers will presumably just do as you suggest, so if I do it at home I'll save on the postage. Thanks again

I think it'd be worth a quick email to Sapphire to check about the lack of warranty - that's a bit surprising to me.
Re: Advice please - clicking Sapphire Radeon RX 5700 XT Nitro+
Thanks good idea then I'll know all the options. I'll update when I hear from them
Re: Advice please - clicking Sapphire Radeon RX 5700 XT Nitro+
Hi all, I received the below response from Sapphire
"Dear Sir/Madam:
You do not need to register for warranty. Due to each region had different warranty policy, we suggest you contact reseller where you purchased the card for warranty check. Also please refer warranty policy: https://www.sapphiretech.com/en/cs_consumer"
So it sounds like it defaults to overclockers position with the 90 day warranty. This seems a little odd given the EU's directive states even secondhand items from a retailer must carry a 2 year guarantee https://europa.eu/youreurope/citizen...s/index_en.htm
I'm guessing they're being cute with the language and are defining a difference between a warranty and guarantee. I might have to do some more reading on it!
