how easy is it to overclock my new MSI 6800GT?

Heard you can overclock it to ultra speeds. What is easiest/best way?
I do know everything, just not all at once. It's a virtual memory problem.

First off put the post in the right section would help and use coolbits as you would with the 5900

If easy=best in your mind then Powerstrip is your best bet. If you want the best though it's probably Rivatuner. Coolbits works but I know people who have had trouble with it.

I know I was talking about a graphics card but I was talking about overclocking a graphics card which is what this forum is for - overclocking.

    btw, never overclocked the 5900.

ps only joking about the part above about which forum. My mistake for posting in wrong one, sorry.

Well i don't think there's a best way to overclock a card. I prefer Rivatuner over others, but PowerStrip or Coolbits is good for, err, somebody else. And there's no easy way, just be careful not to fry it lol

I have your card. What scores did you get in 3D Mark 2005?

Why the hell do you want to overclock it?

Why not Cards overclock and get better performance than using stock speeds but the offset is the fact they will generate more heat and therefore reducing the life of the item by a little. The fact is many GT cards can overclock to "ultra" speeds or even faster.

As long as you have ample cooling then overclocking is all fine and dandy... Hell everyone does it to gain a few extra points in 3DMARK05 or an extra fps in Doom 3

Yes, but that card will handle absolutely any game maxed out would it not? Mine certainly does.

Does it void the warranty atall?

RivaTuner uses coolbits for it's software OCing.

Before you start OCing, I recommend you replace the thermal compound, even if your temps are good. I have owned many 6800GTs of various brands and most of them have had air bubles, gaps, or poorly spread compound.

I have a 70Mhz OC on the core of my card, this has given me a SIGNIFICANT and very noticeable FPS boost in games (some times as much as 25 fps more), that is why I overclock. Still not at the perfromance level I would find ideal, but it's better than stock. Not even OCed SLI 6800Ultras will run everything all the way maxed out perfectly. There is always room for improvement.

for my scores in aquamark 3. Apparently it is better for real world testing than 3d mark.
