    6800GT Performance Drop, HELP!

I got this Blue Screen of Death today when I was playing COD:UO. Can anyone help? I went into Event Viewer to see, and this is the one I think is it?

    Event Type: Error
    Event Source: System Error
    Event Category: (102)
    Event ID: 1003
    Date: 29/03/2005
    Time: 11:49:15
    User: N/A
    Computer: 3XS-9L
    Description:
    Error code 1000008e, parameter1 c000001d, parameter2 f6918d72, parameter3 f33be60c, parameter4 00000000.

Since this happened there has been a drop in my Aopen Aeolus 6800 GT. For an example, COD:UO use to never go below lets say 50 FPS mark, no it can go as low as 25! This HAS never happened since I got this PC from scan so can anyone help? I have e-mailed Scan with the problem and am waiting for a reply.

    James
P.S. My Spec if below and im using Windows XP SP2, Nvidia 71.84.

I did a bit of Googling, and searched for the combo of event ID's 102, 1003, and Error Code 1000008e.

I came up with nothing concrete, but did find several links to people getting similar errors caused by either overheating of the VIA chipset or GFX core, or in some cases incompatibilities with RAM.

There'd be no harm in running a MemTest, and also check ur temperatures and FAN RPM's with MBM or similar. Drivers up to date? Virus free?

HTH, or sit tight and let Scan help if they can..

    HTH,

Thanks for your help guys. Scan have tried to help but nothing is working!

Iam going to try MemTest to see if it picks anything up, BurnInTest found no errors. Nor when I ran 3DMark03/05. But there is 100% fall in FPS in games such as Call of Duty, there was no problems before it happened.

P.S.My PC is fine when it comes to Cooling.

Does this occur just in COD:UO or every game that is played on the system? If its just COD:UO then it could be down to a problem with the coding of the game, which has occurred in the past with a wide range of titles and a patch maybe out to correct this.

Also, have you check dxdiag to see if Direct X is installed correctly and operating 100%. Windows can have a fieldday sometimes with directX problems.

Fingers crossed you get this fixed asap as I know how frustrating it can be when games do not work correctly.

    Best Regards,

Hmm.. Okay, so run Memtest and see what that throws up.. Other than that...

You say there is a performance drop.. What are you using to gauge this performance? Are your benches in standardized marks like 03/05 affected too?

Makes me wonder if the random reboot during gameplay, has just affected that one game and it's reset itself back to a standard set of graphics options because it detected an error that last time or something - and maybe the default has more eye candy/higher res, hence the FPS drop?

This is unlikely, as I'm sure you'd notice the difference in something so obvious urself - I'm just trying to think of anything..

    Any more info?

    Dear all,

Thanks for all the help but I believe with the Help of Scan and this Wonderful Forum the problem was due to RAM.

I did the Mem Test and 700 Errors were found, yes that’s right 700 errors. So what we did was remove each stick to find which one was the culprit. We narrowed it down to one stick of RAM, which will be replaced.

One last question could this affect the games FPS? Please say it could!

Yep most defiantly I would have imagined, with 700 errors on that stick I'm suprised you managed to run any games

Yes it can affect everything even your goldfishes ability to repetatively say "bob" over and over again. RAM is the most critical item after CPU & Mobo as this is where all the data is held for processing etc so if this causes errors then the data has to be "fetched" again and this can cause a bottleneck.

I spotted your thread on the "other forum" and glad its all been rectified

I see you work for Scan.

If you know him then Ben is the representative that has helped me through this. Give him a Raise

The RAM is being dropped off and the faulty RAM picked up on Monday.

    Hey everyone,

Just an update to say I received the RAM and the problem STILL REMAINS! I still get LOW FPS in COD:UO. Just look at my spec at the top, IT SHOULD BE BLIZTING CALL OF DUTY!

I Don't Know What Is Left To Do?

    Have you re-run memtest?
