Warranty void stickers on GPU screw.
Hi
Just wondering if anyone had come across anything like this when discussing issues with your GPU to a retailer in the UK. I know its illegal in the US for manufacturer's to void warranty's by placing stickers on screws but wondering what the situation is in the UK.
I was outright told that if I tampered with the screw on the GPU that my warranty is void. The sticker on mine doesn't even state warranty void if removed it just says MSI factory seal. I was planning on getting a block on mine and as I already removed the cooler shroud to repaste the card it seems the warranty for mine is now apparently voided according to their staff. I have reached out to MSI to find out if this is true.
What's even more ridiculous is that Scan even sell GPU blocks for the card I currently have, I mentioned that to them and why there isn't a disclaimer stating warranty void if used. This was answered in the reply below but they claim MSI is not one of them (my card is 3090 Gaming X Trio, they currently have the Alphacool Eisblock Aurora GPX-N RTX 3090/3080 Gaming X Trio with Backplate for preorder).

Re: Warranty void stickers on GPU screw.
What's the issue here exactly? It seems reasonable to me to assume that if you remove a factory assembled cooler and replace it with your own that it would invalidate a warranty. I don't see how MSi, or anyone else for that matter, can underwrite an end-user's workmanship if they install the new heatsink incorrectly and don't cool a critical component. Now if you are getting problems that are not due to the heatsink but say, bad bios, or similar then IMO at least, the manufacturer should still have to sort that out if it's within a reasonable timeframe, but if related to the cooler you've changed then it seems that is not their problem anymore.
Re: Warranty void stickers on GPU screw.
I think you misunderstood my question, the cooler on my GPU is still stock and I haven't replaced it with a GPU block or anything custom yet.
The only thing I did was repaste the card as I wasn't happy with the temps and it still works fine.
If I damaged the card whilst taking it off then fair enough I accept it but this isn't the case at present Scan have outright said if the screw has been taken off the cooler i.e the sticker has a screw driver hole in it the warranty is void.
I just want to find out if anyone has had any experience with any similar situations with either a 2000/3000 series card regarding warranty.
Re: Warranty void stickers on GPU screw.
So you've removed their thermal paste and used your own? You have modified the item. Seems pretty obvious to me that would invalidate a warranty if temps/cooling becomes an issue.
Your question is whether anyone else has removed thermal paste and then been able to claim under warranty?

I believe warranty refusals for changing the TIM on a GPU have already been successfully challenged and ruled out in North America, not sure about Europe and the UK though.
