Advice on GPU / or new PC?
Hi all, I'm looking for peoples opinions on whether a GPU upgrade is worth it currently or a wait for a new PC.
My Dad currently has a fairly old PC that he has kept going for the last 5 years or so, with a HD7850 GPU, 4th gen i5, 16GB DDR3 RAM, he currently plays a few RPGs such as Witcher 3 but nothing needing cutting edge graphics and he is happy to play at medium-high settings; but he's now looking for a bit of an upgrade so that he will be able to play Assassins Creed Valhalla at medium settings at least. He's currently debating whether he should buy a GTX 1660 which seems like a fairly decent card, keep that going for a while and then buy a new motherboard/cpu/ram combo in the next year or so, or just buy a whole new PC in a few months and just live with what he has for the time being.
My main question is, do you guys think a GTX 1660 with those specs of his current PC will be enough to run Valhalla on medium settings at a decent frame rate consistently (30+ for my Dad), and will that combination last him a good year or so given he doesn't really play cutting edge graphics games and is happy to accept medium settings? Or should he just wait to save a bit longer and buy a whole new PC?
Re: Advice on GPU / or new PC?
Graphics cards are like gold dust at the moment, and way over priced. My advise is to wait a couple of months, the situation should start claming down by then. If you must buy now there's very little new stock, but you can get 1660 Super's for around £275-280. I'd recommend looking on the used market on ebay to see if you can get a decent price (below £230 would be reasonable in the current market).
Re: Advice on GPU / or new PC?
That game is AMD sponsored so works better on AMD GPUs,which are even harder to find than Nvidia ones! :(
In fact the cheapest way forward is probably to look for a prebuilt PC at this rate,if you want to replace the CPU.

^this. Prebuilt is your best hope right now
