I understand why it would but .... some games are starting to push the 8GB boundary, and it's a tradition in PC haardware to push hardware limits. So if, you me, you want to preserve the longevity of what is, after all, not exactly a cheap component, i does become a factor to consider and, providing the difference in price isn't too silly, certainly better to have more than less, other factos being equal.

Of course, if getting extra memory means going for next gen, waiting who knows how long, putting up with large extra power draw and maybe heat, well, that's a LOT more questionable.

For me, I'm prepared to go to a pretty healthy price, but only up to a point, and if I do, I want to get the best blend of hardware for my needs (which is not just gaming, BTW) that I can. That means the extra memory is appealing, providig the price premium to do it isn't too much, for me. It's all relative.

For anybody else, mileage may vary.

Give it 1-3 months and I think all will be good - there's so much less demand and scalpers will only be able to put up a certain amount before collapsing.

Heat? Nvidia are using 5nm TSMC process instead of the 8nm Samsung used in the 3000 series. So for a given level of performance, the 4000 series should be lower power draw.

It's just the 4090 card is rumoured to be very power hungry, but that only matters to those who want that level of performance.

But then you buy a AIB card which is factory overclocked and the power budget goes out the window anyway for the sake of a 1% performance bump because most reviewers seem to care more about that than how loud the fans are

They're just reflecting their main markets - we are a minority!

I think nVidia are going as small a die as they can with clock speeds ramped up to get performance - costs more power perhaps but they get more chips out of each wafer. Last time around they did a ton of cards on the larger die.

interestingly I read today they might be dialling down the power, possibly even at cost of performance milestones given the current energy crises to avoid political PR backlash. It's all leak and conjecture so I shan't bother linking the article, but if they are so minded then something efficient and quiet would be jolly nice. My 3070 has always had that in its favour: being cooler and quieter than its larger brothers. Yes not as high performing, but I'm still 1080p so until I upgrade to 4k screens I'm happy (provided it doesn't get a fault)

The TDP of the Zen4 CPUs looks very high:
    https://videocardz.com/newz/amd-prep...en-7000-series

All seem to be around 60% higher than the models they replace.

That's probably good practice on buying any used card?

Today both places came back into stock, but scan now list it back at £1400+ whereas ebuyer have kept it at £1150 with the listing saying plenty of stock (they highlight when it's <10 available) so they are still receiving new deliveries of them and in scan's case appear happy to not need to discount to shift them. I'm not sure what Nvidia RRP was for 3090FE but £1150 for an AIB like the tuf oc sounds like a good deal *if* you need the 24GB buffer. The 3080ti is not much cheaper ( circa £1050 for the equivalent tuf oc) so if you're not holding out for a 4000 series you might as well pay the £100 extra I guess
Decent pricing for the 3090 (I use the term loosely for "decent"). When I got my 3090FE in Dec 2020 pricing was £1399, which is still the pricing shown now for the FE. Interesting to see the Ti variant has an instant £280 rebate bringing the pricing down to £1600, perhaps Nvidia realise that maybe they're pricing their halo products too high? I dread to think how much Nvidia think they'll get for the 4xxx series. I was quite lucky to sell my used 2080FE for basically the same price I paid two years earlier (~£750), so the 3090FE cost was offset by that, I highly doubt that'll happen with the 3090FE and I'm reluctant about paying above £1000 for a dGPU regardless on whether I can afford to or not.

Amazon Italy had an RTX3060 for £170 but most people got the exchange fee refunded and it got it for £140. Then some orders had a random voucher appear and they got it for £35!

Yeah, with 6900XT going for £750 new, as soon as Nvidia have had their press conference on the 4000 series I expect prices to drop at least 10-15% more on Ebay as the fire sale begins. If I were looking for a new GPU now, something in the £250-£350 price range, soon might be a good time for a used RTX 3070 or similar.

    Well there's always this story:
    https://videocardz.com/newz/nvidia-g...-end-of-august
"NVIDIA to take aggressive actions to reduce RTX 30 pricing
Two Chinese news outlets citing their own sources from the supply chain suggest that NVIDIA RTX 30 graphics cards should get even lower prices by the end of this month. "

If enough of these stories circulate and consumers wait, prices are bound to fall further. Matching mis-priced RTX3060 for £35 is unlikely though.

Well it looks like Ethereum is finally going proof of stake.

At first I thought miners will all just move, but all the other coins added together don't have enough liquidity.

Seems the 5700xt is now tracking at around £200 which I would be happy with but now looking at the 6700xt which is dropping.

I am happy to wait a little longer.
