Unhappy What to do, What to do...

So it appears that HL2 is going to be delayed until christmas. I figure that also means that the release of ATI's new card will be delayed until then as well. That means that the prices of video cards probably won't come down all that much, which means I'm going to end up spending about $500 for a 9800 pro. Or do you fine folks think that ATI will release there new card before the release of HL2? This really screws me up, because the graphics card is essentially the last piece of the puzzle in the new rig I'm building

Yeh no pointing spending all that money on a card your not going to be happy with.

I would recommend a used 9500/pro, gf4 ti4600, etc to tie you over til the release of the new ones.

It's not a matter of being unhappy with the Radeon 9800 Pro, it's a matter of buying it and then seeing 2 weeks later that it's dropped by like $100-$150.

well, that is what will happen, though not in 2/3 weeks. more like 2 months. that is when i am expecting new ATI cards to be out. Also, ATI will be selling them as a bundle with HL2, so am guessing they might time the release of both. might even save urself a couple of quid buying the bundle!

A GF4TI4200 is a very good card to tide you over until the mid-range cards can offer at least 9700nonPRO perf for your money. The 4200 is about as fast as the 9600PRO and FX5600ultra (exc DX9 and AA+AF), it's half the price and you should sell it on for what you paid for it when the new better performing £150 cards come out in 1-3 months. If you can find a 9500PRO or 9700 (PRO or nonPRO) then they are great choices ... the 9700nonPRO can get VERY close to 9800PRO speeds.
