First ever stick of RAM has gone bad and it wasn't even mine!

After some painful fault finding I've discoverd one of the sticks of RAM in my son's PC has gone kaput, it's an 8GB stick of 2400mhz HyperX and when installed it will randomly blue screen. I don't think I've ever actually have a stick of RAM go bad before and there appears to be no obvious reason why it would have happened.

The worst part? He's somehow now ended up with my pair of 3000mhz sticks and I'm stuck with a 2400mhz single stick (OCd to 2666) on my Ryzen 2600x!

The things you do for your kids...

Maybe a long-shot but you could try contacting kingston to see if they'll replace it under their lifetime warranty.

I had a stick of Corsair DDR3 RAM go bad after three years, didn't think they'd replace it what with everything having moved onto DDR4 but it wasn't an issue for them.

I've had a few sticks go, normally in other people's builds where they ran at always at stock but they never cleaned out their fans/cases. No way to say if there's a causal factor there with heat/dust static or whatever or if it's just coincidence.
