Question Known safe 3080 Founders Edition overclock numbers?

Within MSI Afterburner, I have Power Limit set to max (115%) and Temp. Limit set to max (90C).

I've tried +50 MHz on the Core Clock and 150 MHz on the Memory Clock without issue, so I'm assuming I can go further.

I know every card is different but I am just checking if there are values that all of the FEs can do.

How can we know without testing them all? The global safe (well, acceptable level of returns really) value is reference clocks. Beyond that and you're always trading off some potential life/stability.

Don't forget to check you actually see an improvement in benchmarks - mem overclocks in particular can be stable but reduce performance due to error correction on these cards.

Re: Known safe 3080 Founders Edition overclock numbers?

What's the mem temp on your card?
I've got a 3080FE and swapped the thermal pads out and it dropped 20oC off of the temp so deffo worth doing as hitting 110oC starts to throttle the RAM, I was hitting 104oC before the pad swap.
There have ben pictures in the wild of thermal pads being missing, in the wrong place or still with the plastic backing on them, so if you really want to OC your card make sure its being cooled properly first.

Then, once you know the cards fine, undervolt it, which tends to give better results than overclocking.

    +1 to undervolting the card.

Best thing to do is have a play, get some benchmarks, do the OC scanner on MSI Afterburner so it can find a good curve for you to start from, increase the mem speed.

It's just a case of changing a bit at a time, monitoring temps and benchmarking to make sure the changes increase performance rather than decrease it and keep going till you see instability.

I spent an evening doing mine after I first got it and havent needed to touch the settings since.

What have you gained by overclocking though, has it actually been worth it?
I only tweaked mine for mining (burn me now) but for gaming I run it at stock..

I've got a 3070 FE and havent found the need to OC it. What gains are you chasing as most things run great already.

Higher, consistent clock speed at lower power than stock. Therefore less heat and can run the fans at a slower speed so it is less noisy.

So I see the time spent as beneficial.

Don't get me wrong if we are looking at just in game performance we are looking at single digit improvements and you would say not worth it but overall I think it was worthwhile.

So a vote more for the undervolt than the overclock then

I play CoD daily but I do not know of any games that warrant OC especially the new range. I'm even tempted to put my old 2070 back in and keep my 3080 spare TBH

I'd keep the 3080 and sell the 2070 given the second-hand market at the mo..

I just looked on facebook trust me I would never buy there but there are some people selling 2070's for £1000. Are they nuts
