Which 19" TFT

Hi All,

Need some help on choosing a 19" TFT. I have a budget of £250 all in. I've narrowed down to two but any other recommendations are welcome. Not too fussed about DVI (but nice to have), not really used for gaming but do use it a fair bit for watching DVD movies.

Here are the two I've had a good look at:

Samsung SM913N 8ms response - savastore £244.69 (Height Adjustable option £270.71)

LG L1915S 12ms response - ebuyer £214.97

Does anyone know the dead pixel policy with LG. I think Samsung is zero dead pixel policy but do correct me if I'm wrong.

That Samsung policy doesn`t apply here unfortunately.
Maybe not as fast on response but perfectly OK and a very good price now is the Dell 1905.
I`ve had the LG and it is a good panel and quite cheap but whilst OK for games it`s only (like many others) 16.2M colours (6 bit) instead of 8 bit 16.77M.
Not a big deal unless you want digital video and pic editing.
I know the panel in the Samsung and it`s better than the LG but the Dell, IMHOP, is better than both.
Depends where you buy them on dead pixel but most dealers will allow some dead or sub pixel faults so check the dealer policy (usually stated somewhere on their website) and the class of panel they`re offering.
Most modern panels have very little problems with dead pixels though there`s some still about. Unless there are several, you may even find it hard to find a stuck on or off pixel and even harder to find a stuck sub pixel.

just sold a Dell 193 19" tft, superb display with 16ms, saw no ghosting at all on HL2 and just discovered they are on special offer on Dell site now for well under your budget, only neg is no DVI input, but an extra £50 will get you the Dell 1903 model

The best you can get is the dell 1905FP, dont be put off by the 20ms responce time, as long as its going through dvi, its fine. It uses the same panel as a Samasung which is £400 on Ebuyer! Its a really nice monitor and GREAT value for money! http://accessories.euro.dell.com/sna...tegory_id=4009

But is prob crap. Dell has around a 5 dead pixel thing, BUT, you can get a replacement, no questions asked, during 15 days after you bought the monitor. There is a good review here: http://www.anandtech.com/displays/showdoc.aspx?i=2332

Looks like we all like the dell here.....I've had a good look at it and have decided that the Ultrasharp 1905FP is a good deal and just within my budget.

Nvening, I can't seem to see anything on Dell's site about this no questions asked return policy within the 15 days......do you have the link ?

No, it was on another forums, mabe they dont do it now? Try phoneing them

IIRC, not so much a dead pixel policy but a 7 day no quibble return policy.

Just a quick Thank You for all your advise.

The Dell TFT arrived yesterday, it was a great deal and I am very happy with the purchase. Its sitting very pretty next to the Shuttle and looks fab.

No dead pixels at all so I guess I won't have to use the no quibble return policy.

I took delivery of 2 on Monday. Nice screens - very nice. Only problem is ghosting - I'm particularly sensitive to this, but a couple of hours later and I don't notice it. It's just the difference between CRTs and TFTs - a big jump at start, but you get used to it. :)

I should be fine,my friends PC has a tft with the same panel in a samsung, i could not notice any ghosting on that.

Hmm, just one problem with that.
With Dell's never ending (and never static) list of offers, you might not be able to buy this 1905FP monitor on a £250 budget.

Four weeks ago, a colleague bought one through the Dell UK website for £299+vat+P&P. Two weeks later, I bought mine through the same website for £243 inclusive during one of their special offers. And today, it's back at £354 inclusive.

Dell, come on.. pick a price and stick with it ! Stop messing around with "Must end in 2 days"-style offers ! How are we supposed to recommend your products when the price can vary by 45% from week to week ?!


Anyway, it's a great monitor. Only 20ms, but with the DVI connection, games are smooth, no ghosting. I love the ability to rotate the screen, the convenient USB slots on the side, and the fact that there's no "brick" power adapter.

At £243, it's great value for money.
But at £354, it's priced well outside the competition, there are plenty of better value 19" DVI monitors around.

Aria sell it for £240

It is a very good monitor as are most of the Dells.
I can attest to their replacement policy as I`ve just accidently damaged one and one of the three I`ve had was damaged on delivery. Not badly but 2 pixels dead at top of screen which were only visible with a monitor test. Replaced within 2 days with no questions and the accident one is being replaced for a small fee, ie an engineers visit.
