    Playstation 2 > SXGA?

    Hi,

Is there a method of upscaling a PS2 output to fit a 1280x1024 LCD monitor, one which works with all games and doesn't look awful? I know the Dreamcast did it natively, but I was wondering if it was possible with the PS2. Or am I better off buying a TV capture card like a Pinnacle/Dazzle box?

    Thanks

A company called Avermedia (they make TV tuner and capture cards and similar devices) have a product line called AverTV Box. I have the slightly older one does up to 1024x768 but the current one goes to 1280x1024. Basically it has inputs for a PC VGA out (only one tho), 2x Composite Video, 1x S-Video, 1x TV ariel and some audio ins for the above. It has an output for audio and one for a VGA monitor. Basically it's a tv tuner and vga/video source switcher so from the remote you can switch between the PC, the TV tuner and the video ins. I have my PS2 attached to mine along with my PC and a tv ariel and it works fine.

The issue i have with mine is that it only goes to 1024x768 for the tv and video ins so it has to downscale it for my 1280x1024 TFT monitor. The new one should work better. In my case the PC is just a pass-through so 1280x1024 is no problem for the PC, no loss in quality.

www.aria.co.uk have the newer version in their TV Tuners section, mine was about £100 about a year ago, guess the current one will be around the same.

I would suggest the TV Box 9. This product will cope with 1280 x 1024 and features progressive scan and 3D motion adaptive de-interlace which will also crisp up the picture for you.
