Hi, I was thinking about buying a 17" tft for my computer which would be more practical space wise etc... but would my computer be able to handle the native resolution in games and alike: my specsd are in my sig. Thanks, John.

In a word, yes.
Yeah. I'm running a 2400 @ 2.0GHz, 1Gb standard pc3200, and a 9800XT 256Mb, and it runs HL2 and Doom3 at full detail in that res perfek ;)
Should be fine mate you have got a 6600GT :)
1280 x 1024 should be a doddle.
What res/screen are you using now?
Sounds like a CRT, why not set it to that res to see how it goes? Even if it's soft or whatever you'll still get an idea of framerates.
I have never really tried above 1024x764...have i been losing out??
do you reckon pushing my cpu to 2.45 ghz which it is capable of will help a lot at that res seeing as my cpu is prob the bottleneck...
my system (all stock speeds) handles 1280x1024 fine, its when you start adding AA+AF you will see the frame rates dropping.
having said that I can usually have 2xAA 2xAF without any serious slowdown.
just got 16191 @ 1024x748 in 3dmark 2001, gonna try 1280x1024 as a comparison. Would overclcoking my card help as well, i have it at stock at the moment...
just got 14571 marks in 2001 @ 1280x1024 resolution. My pc is a bunged up with crap at the moment though...
should be fine
Its the graphics card that matters and believe us, yours will manage it easily!
You are fine. Probably won't bebale to use alot of AA, but 1280x1024 will run perfectly fine in nearly all games with nearly any midrange card.
I've been using 1280x1024 and 1600x1200 since my softmodded 9500. I still use them with my 6800GT, just with more AA.
OK, guess I've been holding back for a while then...
 My 6800Ultra only gives 12517 3DMark2001 marks. :mad:Quote:

Time to build a new system around the gfx card I think! :D
So i'm guessing you have a 2400xp and a 6800ultra!!! Talk about bottlenecking!!
The stock 3dmark 2001 test is almost totally CPU/memory limited on any card past a 9800.
