Which is the best way to clean my new TFT's without marking them etc. A free way would be great.

I personally use KFC handwipes...
I would use a wet sponge that has been dipped in sand/dirt. It really gets them hard to remove stains off!!
hehe nice idea, I am guessing that there are actual real products for this kind of thing. I will have to look into it.Originally Posted by [GSV]Trig
yeh screen-clean wipes, cost a few quid off ebay
clean very nice and don't leave any marks
I just use screen clean wipes for my CRT monitor, does the trick nicely.
Except when they do leave marks. I find that anything that's wet leaves streaks, even if the liquid is supposed to be residue-free.Originally Posted by faisal_uk
The best free option is probably a clean hankie soaked in water then wrung out as dry as you can get it. That leaves a tiny bit of moisture to dissolve stuff and hang on to dirt, but not enough to leave smear marks.
Alternatively, use the hankie before you sneeze over the screen.

I recently bought lindy screen cleaner from amazon due to the great reviews. It turned out to be rubbish, leaving nasty smears.
Since then I have found a fantastic and free way to clean tfts - toilet paper and water!!!
All you do is have one wet bit of bog roll and one dry bit. Wipe the tft screen till its nice and clean with the wet, then dry it all off with the dry bit of tissue. My TFT has never looked so good. I use standard tesco bog roll, none of that fancy stuff.
If you dont believe me then try it on someone elses tft first
My X-black is a paint to keep clean, it seems to attract and hold on to dust very well, an almost sticky surface.
The price you pay for contrast
I use a bottle of 70% isopropyl alcohol alcohol with bog roll to clean my TFTs, it works a treat
Just remembered a tip from Really Right Stuff
My preferred cleaning liquid is a 50/50 mix of isopropyl acohol and distilled water with one drop of washing up liquid added.Throw away your lens cleaning tissue! Buy 100% sterile cotton padding (comes in six inch wide roll) at the first aid section of your drugstore. Cut off a patch, and wipe away lens cleaning solution. No more smears! Use canned air for cleanup. Don’t use cotton gauze; use absorbent cotton padding.

Used to use vinegar and lemon juice on really hard to kill crt smears and splats but normally now just use Window cleaner or rubbing alochol and water, just damp, on a Zim sponge followed with decent soft bog roll or if you`re real posh (and got a first aid kit) cotton wool.
Thats a joke, right?Originally Posted by marlyred
That would ruin a TFT's coating and leave scratches. Don't do it!
hehehe
I use isopropyl alcohol, it's good stuff cuts grease like a hot knife through butter.
Incidentally using cotton padding or such is best - paper based products such as tissue can scratch your screen, cotton won't.
Screen cleaner and a lint free cloth.
