Yeap... experimented a little bit... went as far as the OC tool allowed on both mem and gpu... hit 95C at one point with my casing shut... open it up... it sat comfortably 87C under load.. (UT2004 20 bot DM Rankin)

Oh...I was chickening out when my 6800GT hit 70
The card probably will not be physically damaged by temps under 100C or so at stock voltage, but it most certainly won't be stable at 100C while overclocking.Originally Posted by Grey M@a
My card is not totaly stable at 420MHz core past 70C, nor were any of the other four 6800GTs that I have used.
Of course the cards are unstable clocking them on the bog standard heatsink and ram sinks they come with, its meant for stock running to be honest. Strip it off and put a better sink on the card, then you will see better cooling performance![]()
Yeah I use the stock XFX one but I have seen them with the nv5's running you can squeeze a little bit more out the card with them without a rise in temps![]()
