Depends which quadro your comparing it to. I currently have an entry level quadro card and Im quite certain than even one 8800 gtx would be an improvement but I imagine the higher end quadros would still be better than dual 8800s for heavy duty cad and 3d. Im only guessing here though.
Assuming nvidia havent changed their strategy much from the days when i followed stuff like that, quadros are just rebranded consumer parts. Some of the supporting logic is slightly different, as is some of the output circuitry iirc, however, other than that there shouldn't be any performance differences. On 6xxx series cards you could even flash quadro firmwares onto consumer boards (dont know if this is the case) back then reviewers reported slim to no performance differences.
