ive got an agp and pci graphics card installed as i want to use two monitors at once, but the problem is one can only be displayed at a time.
up until windows has loaded the pci card is used then it switches to the agp and the pci one goes off, does anyone know how to get them both to stay on at a time, i can switch between them in display properties.

You may need to set the PCI graphics card as the primary card in BIOS, some older ones don't like being used as a secondary.
What make are they, I had terrible trouble with ATi PCI cards, lol. Now I have 3 NVIDIA cards it works much easyer. :)
the pci card is an old s3 trio and the agp is a ti4200.
I cant seem to find an option in the bios to set the primary card. Should the agp card work on the bios screens with the pci installed as its the other way round.

Why not just connect both monitors to the one graphics card?
Extend your desktop onto the second monitor in Desktop/Properties/Display/Advanced.
Assuming you`re using Xp or 2000. Doable in Penguin but not sure on specifics.
Incidentally, "Init display first: [PCI/AGP]" is usually the entry in CMOS setup for deciding which card is initialised and used during POST/boot
I've tried using an old S3 as a secondary before now and it's been a RIGHT pain; personally I'd have a hunt around fopr a second hand old PCI TNT2 if you can find one; I've used that as a secondary before with an AGP nVidia card and it worked fine in the same box that didn't cope with the S3.

a) Yes it can do dual displays, but
b) It's not really relevant, since Ben's trying to use a PCI adapter to drive the second display, not run two displays off the 4200.
Never did get it to work, the option for extending the desktop is there and if i enable it the monitor connected to the 4200 switches off.
Might try a Matrox Millenium tomorrow (only other PCI gfx Ive got here) and see if that wants to work properly with the 4200.
get another PCI Nvidia card..
Matrox doesn't like playing with anything but other Matrox cards..
