Slightly higher clocks than the current gen of nvidia cards and 50% more pipes.
I'd guess 20-30% faster than an X850XT-PE, overall. Not gonna be as huge as the last leap.
yer it wont be a another giant leap, infact i dont really see this happening again for sumtime. the 6000's was Nvidia pulling its finger out after the 5000's which were crappy cards to say the least compared to the 9700 and basically jumped 2 generations worth of power hence the giant leaps in performance. now they have this lead over ATi currently i dont see them needing to really pump up the speed till the gen after this arrive.Quote:

Well from what i have heard is that the R520 from ATi will be built by TSMC on a 90nm, low-K process
it'll close the feature gap to NVIDIA's 6-Series GPU's with suppost for Direct x 9.0c or Shader Model 3. Indications say it will strictly be a 16-pipeline GPU so dont beleive the 24-32 pipe rumours.
Interestingly the followup to the R520 which is the R580 will also only have 16 pipelines but adds an extra pair of texture units for a grand total of three per fragment pipeline.Expect a big leap in shader throughput thanx to ALU's being rejigged for 32-bit precision and very superior performace rendering much-touted High Dynamic Range Lighting effects than the exisiting GPU's. CLockspeeds are usually the last thing confirmed but it wouldnt be far of 600mhz.
Dunno much about the new nvidia GPU. I wouldnt be expecting 32 pipelines though. Even 24 is being over optimistic.

Those ppu cards are supposed to be priced at about £200 too apparently, so hopefully its going to be a one-time investment that doesn't go out of date once every year, lol. (perhaps a slight exagguration)

The cpu will be able to do other things.. but dual core/dual cpu would essentially help just the same. Games will have to be written specifically for it, much like multi-cpu.. I would say they will not be much different.. but a cpu will be more powerfull.
The later gens will be better if the tech doesnt die out..

A dedicated PPU chip will own a CPU when it comes to performing physics calculations since it will have been designed specifically for the task. A CPU is jack of all trades and master of none. It's early days and will probably be integrated at some stage. It will be interesting to see how much of an impact it has on the games and how much support there is for the technology.
People need to learn a bit more about how a modern 3D accelerator works. 'pipes' doesn't mean what you think it means.Quote:
