Dell 2405FPW - Anyone got one on order? *56k beware*

Jsut wondering if anyone on this site has one on order, and what they've been told by Dell regarding lead time and delivery on their order.

I've got one on order with them at the moment, and have spent a few days trying to push it through. Been told today should be begining of July (Around 4th) so i'm feeling pretty optimistic!

Well my 2005FPW came pretty quick - I could track everything using the link they gave me for the delivery courier.

Yeah, the 2405FPW has had a big issue with lead times though, supposed to be around 45 days!

Got a phone call today though that mine is being despatched, will be with me tuesday! Not bad considering its still on 45 days on Dell website

By the way i notice you have 2gb RAM in your sig - I am going to be getting that amount soon, how much more better is it over 1gb? Im not just talking in terms of gaming performance either, I mean real life performance (multitasking etc)?

The only thing I don't like about Dell is that they tend to lower the price just after you bought something. That is uber annoying.

Tbh, for gaming its not as good, I often take it down to 1Gb if i'm going to be doing heavy gaming as it lowers your memory timings and switches over to 2T commands rate, which is a LOT slower.

For multi tasking and using large applications (image editing/video editing) then it is really useful. Tbh though, its not worth the extra cash unless you are dealing with MASSIVE files.

In that case, I am still going to get it but I'm not going to rush myself. I am a very multitasking person, so my 512mb gets raped.

Lol well its too late now, I just bought a single stick of DDR400 1gb - I personally think its the best choice for me and obviously I have thought well about the choices considered. I will sit here laughing when the 2gb era dawns on you all

    ....

    ...

..unless that era is also the DDR2 era

My 2405FPW took about 7.5 weeks to arrive (I have had it now for a few weeks).

Great screen esp. considering I swore a TFT would never replace my 21" Sony Trin.
Widescreen gaming is something else and that is coming from a person that does not 'do' games.

Software development on a widescreen is also great. IMHO it better then dual screens as your eyes get less tired as your not scanning over the screens but focused on the one wider screen.

I agree once you start playing with widescreen, it really makes it better - makes 4:3 screens seem really lame, eventhough they aren't.

    BTW this thread needs pics

I waited till they got back to me on the lead time as the original 42 days was puke and I could have got one from the US faster and around the same price, just a pain on the warranty.
So I ordered a couple weeks ago after them giving me a price for the 2 and they quoted 24 days lead.
Time will tell but after having all the Dell screens so far, the 24 has that extra real estate over the currently running 2001 and 2005 for graphics use and makes ws gaming easier somewhat though still with some custom resolution.
Side by side graphics are absolutely sweet for editing.

Sadly the price difference between the 2005FPW and the 2405 was too great so only a 20" widescreen for me...

Well, looks like i will only be posting it on this thread now as the other forum i use (OcUK) have just "banned any reference to Dell as they are a competition"

Which is a brilliant way of forcing people to buy only products they sell through their online store at rip off prices.
