Currently running a 2500 @ 3200 with 1gb ram and 9700pro on nf2 mobo. Looking to upgrade for gfx performance. So do I spend £500 on new rig or is it worth keeping the above and upgrade gfx to
Sapphire x800xt for £190 from Dabs.
I've seen 6800gt for £179 and x800xl for @ £200. So what's the best bang for buck.
I think x800xt > x800xl ≡ 6800GT > 6600GT

Some other factors for you to consider.
If you game at less than 1280x1024, or even that res, a new video card will be a bit of a waste with that machine, but you would no doubt see a big improvement.
With £500 you should be able to get a 3000+ venice, mobo, and X800XT PCI, if you keep your memory, would be a nice upgrade.
i upgraded to a pci-e rig for £265
got my venice at 2520mhz @ 1.375v (32 idle) and ram at 230mhz 2.75v

that £265 was for asus a8n sli deluxe, venice 3000+ and 6600gt 128mb; gfx and mobo were second hand. i am reasonably pleased with it all. and also i am selling the majority of my old kit (keeping ram and harddrives) so i can sell it, so overall it costs a bit less!

prob best pci-e card is x800xl or 2nd hand 6800gt if you can find them cheap enough! remember you dont need to have superb ram for a64 as you can run dividers!
