    9800 quietening

    hiya guys..

i just got a sapphire radeon 9800 pro for my shuttle, and overall i'm pleased with it, except its VERY noisy, when you consider how quiet a shuttle is. is there any way of quietening it? i'm tight on space, which is why i didnt get an ultimate to start with..

Well, you need an extra slot for the Arctic cooler which is the best with a fan as well as helping get rid of heat out the box.
Next option up if you`re tight on space is the Vanteq Iceberg.
If you do have the space and want to go fanless (or with fan as well) then the Zalman is pretty good and is available as fanless or with an optional fan but I reckon you need good airflow in the box to use fanless.
I`ve tried all three but settled on the Arctic as it cools well and is quiet plus gets rid of heat through the extra slot it takes up.

The Vanteq Iceberg is not quiet atall, I had the same problems as you. Look under my user at kustom and search for the posts I created.

The only way to shut my old 9800 Pro was to get rid of the shuttle and buy a decent cooler.

The only way you can do that is to either do that or get a fan mate and undervolt it which is probably the best option.

I've got the arctic cooler on mine and its a whole load quieter than the stock fan but its the noisiest component in my system by a long way.

I would recommend looking at the Zalman VF700CU

Keep to the subject peeps; he needs it to fit in his shuttle.

You certainly won't get one that is dead quiet, but the thermaltake orb is quite good. But not fantastic, otherwise you will just have to look at various retails under vga/chipset coolers to find suitable models and then search in google to find reviews
