Got me PC in sig up and running. Ran 3dmark 05, and got 8400, which i thought was dead good.
I checked the core in Rivatuner and it said it was 520. The orb also reports it as 520?
Stock is supposed to be 450/1300 for this gainward. It reached 80c in 1 run.
Probably because the turbo mode is on, which auto-clocks the card.
So how do i stop that?
With Gainward its the expertool - used to have the 2600 Golden Sample. Expertool was supposed to clock it to 430 according to Gainward, but instead clocked it to 450. Don't know why it did it but it worked perfectly at that.
I thought the 3500PCX had a 'default' overclock of 470?
Ah, yes lol i forgot it was a golden sample, i bought it thinking it was a normal version and when i saw the box, i was like wicked.
520/1300 seems pretty bad as to me on stock cooling.
Wouldn't mind getting the temps down a bit though to around 75C.
Found out now the stock clocks are 480/1300. Just getting bad readings from rivatuner.
Anyone with a Gainward?
I dont have a 800, but my 6800 GT GS also runs pretty hot, (~70-75 depending on ambient) but since nvidia rates them to run at something like 110 then im not really that bothered about it, if it cooks it just send it back, gainwards tech support is pretty good in my experience.
Best thing to do is invest £20 in a really good cooler then you can clock the card even higher AND drop temp :D
I havent seen one of the new golden samples, but on the old ones the cooler is already pretty good, just loud, a removal and refitting with arctic silver instead of the big white goopy pads, and making sure its screwed down tight should sort you out.
And lose any warranty on the £400 card. Do you really need to o/c the fastest gfx card produced for gaming duties? I know people love to squeeze their systems but is it worth the extra 2fps when you're getting 125fps anyway.

If you put together the card right, chances are you wont ever need the warrantey.
I was indeed thinking that, and yes it will realy only help in benchies, ive never been a fan of aftermarket sinks, as tey don't reall help that much.Quote:

Teh gainward is 480/1300 I flashed to the gainward bios on my watercooled 7800gtx. The geometry clock is at 40mhz and adds on 40mhz in a 3d application that is why 480 + 40 = 520mhz
