If its your first ATI, did you have nvidia first? if so did you reinstall windows, or at least use driver cleaner to clear out old driver files first??

That could be a problem, but if not, try grabbing the Omega Drivers over at http://www.omegadrivers.net/

Did you install ".NET framework" as you need that for "Catalyst Control Centre" CCC
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/s...displaylang=en

I myself find the CCC version of the catalysts to be bloaty and slow my PC down.

I use the Control panel version (Which do not need .NET framework)

I have the X800XT and find the latest to be the best 5.7 drivers.

Personally I don't use the CCC, i prefer the control panel. As Ravens Nest said, the latest is the best. I still don't understand why people always wonder which ones the best when the latest ones fix more things and improve performance o_O

Because nVidia driver's performance varies from driver set to driver set, with the latest not always being the best (at least, that was how it used to be)
