    Ati X800gt?

Seeing as my 9700 pro has just died I am looking for a new card. Looking around I see the X800GT is due out very soon. Does anyone know how much they are going to sell for in the UK?

Well, to begin with XT was better than standard for ATi e.g. 9800XT better than 9800, and GT was better than standard for nVidia e.g. 6800GT better than 6800. Now, the reverse is true when you swap the names around. XT is worse than standard for nVidia e.g. 5600XT is worse than 5600, and GT is worse than standard for ATi e.g. X800GT is worse than X800.

Personally, I would try and find a plain X800 - that's what I'm keeping my eye out for at the moment. It seems to be a fair bit faster than a 9800 Pro, still a reasonable card in its own right, without costing the Earth.

I cannot really say what UK pricing for the X800GT will be but the price for newly released cards tends to be somewhat higher then it should be,….even for budget cards.

I have heard that U.S pricing for the X800GT will be around ~$150.

However, keep in mind that there will more then likely be at least two variants under the X800GT. Personally, with only 8 pipes I think the X800GT will be a dog of a card. I think an X800 (no suffix) with 12 pipes would be a better performer for not much more $$$,….unfortunately, the X800 is a PCIe only card,…I think.,….not sure about the X800GT though,..

    ***edit***

BTW, I just came across a link for an X800XT PE AGP factory refurbished by ATI with warranty for about $220 U.S. It was backordered. I almost ordered one but I recently bought an X800XL new from shop.ati.com. I have a feeling that my wife would have been non-too happy if I went and bought another video card,…

If you wait and are watchful you might be able to find a great deal on an even better card.

i think ati's naming system is just retarded. i must be so confusing to most, i found it confusing when i first knew about the extra naming.

^^ I agree. I'd rather se them called x800 Fiesta or Escort than the current confusion.

u'll never know... ATI might cook up another lame name like x850LE that clocks higher than x850xtpe... or x800xtgt which sits between x800 pro and x800gt..

hahahahahahahahhahaha.. oh man.. that was hilarious..

Priced at $130 (128MB) to $150 (256MB) US, said to be coming out around Aug 8th, it looks like a very good alternative to the 6600GT or the 6800LE. Should be a good upgrade for people still running 9700pro's. Link to benchmarks.

If it comes in AGP and the cost is equal to the real exchange rate to the $ I think I will be getting one.

The X800 GT is believed to derive from ATI's R480 core. It contains eight pixel processing pipelines and six vertex engines, and is clocked to around 470MHz. It only supports PCI Express x16 connections - there's no AGP 8x version.
so guess AGP users are out of luck and consider the 6600GT instead.
