    X800GT v X800

Which do you think will be faster. I know the x800 has 12 pipes to the x800GTs 4, but the x800GTs clocks are much faster (475/493 v 400/350) although X800s with 900mhz+ RAM are available.

I was wondering if the X800GT's faster clocks would make up for the lesser pipelines. Plus the x800GT should overclock quite well as they are based on x800xt and x850 cores (the x800xl cores cannot reach 475mhz so they cannot be used for the x800GT)

im yet to actually see one of these x800GTs

personally i think the vanilla would easily beat 4 pipes
especially if it is a gigabyte x800 (the silent ones)

they beat a 6800gt in some tests (half life 2 and some performance tests) in one of the reviews i read for it

The X800 GT has eight pixel units, not four.

I think it'll be close, especially if you compare the faster 256MB GT. But might depend on the game and settings. I've seen an x800 get about 38xx in 3DMark05, yet some reviews show the GT 256MB to be getting around 38xx too.

I think the inq/reg mentioned something about the x800GT being a limited edition in all but name. Maybe ATi's stop gap until the mid-range R520 and a way to shift a stockpile of chips that couldn't quite make 12/16 pipelines?

the x800 is faster than x800GT... for examble, 8 pipelines runing at 250mhz, has 2.000 million of texel por second, and a chip with 4 pipelines runing at 500mhz has the same texles performance... so, X800 is the faster

This very well may be true. However, as far as I know, limitations and full specification of Crossfire tech is not publicly known,….yet.

X700 class cards seem to be excluded and most if not all X800 class PCIe cards are a safe bet but,….

The CrossFire Edition co-processor board may impose specific limitations. With the X800GT only having 8 pipes it may need to be paired with a CrossFire Edition co-processor X800 board that also has 8 pipes. If not then a 16 pipe CrossFire Edition co-processor board may be forced to run with only 8 pipes,…. I don’t really know how ATI will address this. I think core and memory speed on the CrossFire Edition card may be truncated as well if paired with a lower end X800 card,…

BTW, I still haven’t heard anything about AGP X800GT cards,…

I was wondering if the x800gt's superior memory bandwidth will make a difference though?

I wouldn't bother with a x800gt myself - I'd choose the vanila x800 out of the two simply because of the extra four pipes. However, I plan to build a reasonably cheap a64 gaming system in the near future and my choice of graphics card right now is between the x800pro (£160 incl del @ OCuk) and the x800 pro vivo (moddable to an xt) £180 incl del @ ebuyer. I would also consider getting a 6800gt if and when they come down in price.

This is the problem with ATI's naming "system". Will a Ford Fiesta XR2 be quicker, 0-60mph, than an Ford Escort 1.6? I dunno. Where's that nice Andrejez (sp?) bloke to explain all?

personally, I'd go for the x800 - heck I did the gigabyte silentpipe card

EDIT: sorry about the double post
